Jascha Heifetz

Rare footage of Heifetz at the height of his career. This is the introduction to the "Heifetz & Piatigorsky" DVD produced by KULTUR. Most of the Heifetz footage from that DVD (Paganini Caprice, Wieniawski, etc.) have already been posted so this is for those who are really interested in learning more about this great violinist.
Kreisler plays Kreisler-Liebesleid

This is Fritz Kreisler playing his own peice Liebeslied (sorry I don't have a video). I am in love with Kreisler's sound. His playing is so romantic, elegant, and beautiful that he must be regarded as one of the great violinists of all time. Plus, who can argue with a violinist who wrote the damn peice in the first place?
George Enescu plays Corelli Sonata

Enesco is perhaps the most underrated violinist in all of history (probably because he was more famous as a teacher). When my teacher first heard this recording he became obssessed and made every one of his students listen to Enesco 5 times a day. Good advice :)
Joshua Bell plays Bloch Nigun

I really like Bell's old recordings, particularly this gem. I don't know the exact point in which he started to stink but this recording is definitely before then! Again, no video here, which is actually nice since Bell is hideous to watch (I know this from experience)
Tchaikovsky Trio: Heifetz, Rubinstein, Piatigorsky (part 1)

Out of the hundreds and thousands of different classical recordings I have heard in my lifetime, I can safely say this is one of my favorites. Heifetz is the greatest violinist the world has ever known and this is one of his best recordings (if you don't believe me, just listen to variation #4). Part 1: First Movement

Don't Need No Steady Aim Son!

Son (Quotation Subject) fun trickshot no scope cheers Don't! (Composition) Aim (musician)
Pablo de Sarasate - Zigeunerweisen - Sarasate

This is the very same video that aimson uploaded, but with a Notch filter applied at frequency 8000. It sounds much better now! Sorry about the picture being really small and all, don't know what happened - but since it's only a picture anyway, enjoy the audio! With this filter applied, you can really appreciate how well he plays, and how good his violin sounds!

Isaac Stern plays Ravel's Tzigane

Stern is not one of my favorite violinists (lacks imagination often times). However, this is definitely one of my favorite recordings of the Tzigane (Stern also has a great Lalo too). Full of life and passion, just what I love hearing from a violinist.
Sarasate Plays Sarasate Zigeunerweisen

Rare audio clip of the great Pablo Sarasate performing his piece Zigeunerweisen. Keep in mind that this was recorded around 1904, so the quality isn't perfect. Also, the slow movement was left out, probably due to time constraints.
Piatigorsky plays Saint-Saens allegro appassionata

A wonderful cellist who often worked with Heifetz. Here, he appears on the bonus features of the Bell Telephone Hour DVD playing Saint-Saens.

Pablo de Sarasate - Zapateado - Sarasate

Couldn't have done it in the first place without aimson. Thanks for uploading Zapateado in the first place! I've applied a Hum 60 filter alongside a Notch filter at 4000Hz, which makes a big improvement I think; not as good as the filtered Zigeunerweisen, but then this recording wasn't so clean in the first place, so we can't help it - I've done my best and I hope you enjoy it!

Zino Francescatti plays Chopin Nocturne

Francescatti is not one of my favorite violinists but I truly enjoy listening to his playing. He has such a sweet and beautiful tone and is simply wonderful to listen to. I especially love this recording of the Chopin Nocturne even though there is a lot of static.
Heifetz Plays Mozart conc. #5 (2nd mov.)

This is the reason why Heifetz is my favorite violinist and why I don't listen to anybody who doesn't appreciate his incredible beauty and musicianship. As soon as his fingers hit the board I start tearing up. Nobody will ever be able to take that experience away from me.
Gregor Piatigorsky plays Rubinstein-Romance

Never heard of Rubinstein's music before...

Sergiu Luca plays Bach Chaconne (part 1)

Sergiu Luca is credited as being the first modern violinist to play Bach on a "period instrument." In other words, this was perhaps the first "baroque" rendition of the chaconne (1977 recording), which some of you may like. I, personally, cannot stand to listen to "baroque" violinists, including Luca.
Holy Crap! Salvatore Accardo Plays Paganini #1 (Cadenza)

I wouldn't post this if it weren't worth listening to again and again. What an awesome display of technical genius and virtuosity! Let me know what you think - I have half a dozen other recordings of this cadenza. By the way, Salvatore Accardo was the first violinist in history to record all 6 Paganini Violin Concertos in 1974. He made quite the buzz back then, according to my dad, but I'm sure nobody's heard of him today. Buy the CD and you won't be disappointed.
George Sakellariou-Conversation Peices

Sakellariou is a phenomenal classical guitarist. He was actually my dad's teacher at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music about 30 years ago. He has absolutely exquisite tone and was as obsessed with his tone as any other musician I can think of (ie, Mischa Elman). Sorry I don't have any video of him playing.
