Pakistan tells NATO to leave air base
The American commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan says he will investigate what Pakistan has called a deliberate assault on its border. NATO aircraft killed more than two dozen Pakistani soldiers on Saturday. The alleged attack comes as the latest source of tension in a difficult year for Pakistan-US. relations following the US air raid into the Pakistani military town of Abottabad to kill Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Pakistan responded by closing a supply route to NATO's Afghanistan mission, and ordered the US to leave an airbase. Al Jazeera's Rosiland Jordan reports from Washington.

This was mishap was investigated and determined to be accidental "Large numbers of USAF strike aircraft were sent to bases where pavement for aircraft parking was at a premium. Aircraft were parked wing tip to wing tip, vulnerable to an accidental explosion or enemy attack. A need for aircraft revetments was dramatically brought home on 16 May 1965 when the explosion of a bomb under the wing of a loaded B-57 aircraft set off a chain reaction of explosions on the parking apron at Bien Hoa Air Base, South Vietnam. Forty aircraft were destroyed, 26 Americans killed, and over 60 wounded." www.vspa.com "On May 16, 1965, while waiting to takeoff on a mission, a B-57B exploded on the ground at Bien Hoa, setting off a whole chain of secondary explosions. The resulting conflagration destroyed ten B-57s, eleven VNAF A-1H Skyraiders, and a US Navy F-8 Crusader. CIA builds secret air base for Yemen drone attacks as 130 killed in June
Yemen's government says dozens of people have been killed in US drone attacks in the country over the last few weeks, many of them civilians. Washington recently resumed its unofficial military campaign against Al-Qaeda terrorists there, fearing they may exploit the current unrest in Yemen to seize power. Enjoy this two- part visual trace along the route of thousands of evacuees from Clark Air Base and Subic Bay, Philippines, as they escape the destructive force of the pending eruption of the Mt. Pinatubo volcano June 1991. Part 1 of this miraculous adventure covers the historic trek first from Clark Air Base to Subic Bay Naval Base; A week later evacuees board the massive aircraft carrier, USS Abraham Lincoln, for a three day voyage, arriving off shore and ferried to Mac tan Air Base, Cebu by helicopter. The Main Gate area, C-130s, "Rebel Ramp," "Charley Row," AC-130A prototype gunship, 8th aerial port squadron (acknowledgement), Officer's Club, "Paris Control" radomes, and more. The newspaper clipping in the video reads: "CRASH KILLS SIX MEMBERS FROM WING Six crew members of a Lockheed C-130 Hercules were killed on June 23 [1969] when their aircraft was shot down on a resupply mission to Katum, South Vietnam. The men, assigned to the 463rd Tactical Airlift Wing here [Clark AB, Philippines], were on temporary duty to Detachment 2 of the 834th Air Division operating out of Cam Ranh Bay AB. Those killed were: Lt. Col. Jean A. Kearby, Maj. William H. Condit Jr., Capt. Gary E. Brunner, 1st Lt. Terry M. Reed, SSgt. Billy W. McDonald and SSgt. George C. Peters. All were members of the 773rd Tactical Airlift Squadron, a unit of the 463rd TAW. Memorial services for the family and friends will be held tomorrow at 11a.m. in Chapel 1."
