Bruteforcing can take weeks, months or even years depending on the password strength. WPA encrpytion is based off of AES encrpytion which is the leading standard for security. So rather than attack the actual encryption strength or bruteforce, a dictionary attack is the only option. Many dictionaries and wordlists are created with password attacking in mind. This isn't the best card out there, not even close, but it proves that with correct patching for injection support, anything is possible. The network cracked belongs to me, and is WEP40. This tutorial shows how to install aircrack-ng suite the easy way. Internet connection is required. This was tested working on the Ubuntu release 10.10 running on the 2.6.35-28-generic-pae kernel. It should work on other systems. If the ...-init and ...term scripts dont work, edit them and try replace the 'wlan0' with 'wifi0'. Likewise with the 'mon0'. OpenSSL is included, and so is Build-Essential in the scripts for when you need to compile drivers for use with your wireless card (if needed for your card). Your card will be essentially picking up any information it can find on wireless devices in your area. You will see network information as well as client information. Watch a WEP secured network get cracked in less than 5 minutes. The wireless chipset used is the Intel 3945, the driver is iwl3945. Using airmon-ng, I scan for wifi signals and choose one that's using WEP. I use a special wpa_supplicant configuration to get my wireless card to authenticate to the network, because I aireplay doesn't work quite right with this chipset. Once I catch an ARP packet, I can start injecting, and keep going until I get the WEP key. Take the colons out of the key, drop it into your wireless client and you're on the network.
