Overview of the three Apple wireless devices currently available and comparisons of the three devices. I did mention I would show Airport Utility, but decided against it due to length considerations. In summary, there is no one device that fits everyone. They are more expensive compared to their non-Apple counterparts, but if you run Apple computers in your home, the wireless works tremendously better with Apple computers than non-Apple routers will. Additionally, if you buy an Apple computer and have a Time Capsule or Airport Extreme, they will be covered under your Apple's AppleCare plan which is a nice bonus. Currently I use the Extreme and the Time Capsule; the Time Capsule serves my older devices, the Extreme serves my three Mac computers. It works out very nice for me.

Airport Extreme Base Station Unpacking & Installing Experience/Advice - I don't go too deep into things, but this is a video I've made of the overall experience I've had from taking delivery to setting my Airport Extreme Base Station (802.11n) up. I was migrating from an old Netgear router (had it about 4/5 years) that kept crashing to the Airport Extreme. Initially I had problems transferring across from the old router - had numerous problems with conflicting IP's. But then I did the wise thing, read the manual, contacted Apple Support (which was fantastic) to get a little bit of extra help, and I was up and running. It made me realise I don't know much about networking but the Utility that comes with the Airport Extreme makes things easier.

There is a lot to like about the Airport Extreme - It offers lightening fast connections via dual bands, a USB port to offer network flexibility, and the ability to join and amplify an existing network. In my case it works well but not perfectly (I will admit I have not tried to use it to expand an existing network). The features that I like - The N-band is lightening fast. One example is my Apple TV with 160GB Hard Drive - MB189LL/A which now downloads movies alomst instantly. - Basic set-up is very easy (using a Mac) - Airport Utility will walk you right through the set-up. - The ability to serve a printer server - allowing one printer to be shared by multiple computers - Ability to add an external hard drive through Airport Extreme's USB port - it is great being able to back-up files wirelessly! The things I had issues with - The range is below that of my NETGEAR Wireless-N Access Point - although it is much more reliable than the Netgear. - Try as I might I was never able to connect my HP Printer to the network - the network will recognize it but I am unable to print. I am sure that this can be overcome... but how much more time will it take? - It took several tries for me to install my external hard-drive and have it recognized. - I do get a few network drops - it may be issues with my computer. Final Verdict - If it was easier to install my printer and external network this would be an easy 5-star recommendation, but due to the hassles (and failure in the case of <b>...</b>

I shot this a few weeks ago when I picked this up. I have been using this unit since with out any issues. This router was really simple to set up it took 10 minutes max from start to finish. In that time I installed the AirPort Utility software to my PC, hooked the unit up, set up my primary network and the guest network. I went to this from a old Belkin wireless G router that was so slow I could not upload to YouTube using the wireless I could not even attach a pic in an email to send out over wireless with that router. With this new AirPort Extreme I can upload to YouTube and still be online with multiple windows open and running with no issues. This thing is blazing fast compared to the Belkin. I have to say that the Belkin is about 5 years old and was on it last leg but it was never even close to the speed that I am getting now with this AirPort Extreme. This is the new version with the simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi and the guest network. With the guest network option I never have to worry about the iPhone, iPod Touch or visitors slowing my primary (802.11n) network down since I have any other (802.11g) devices set for the guest network. This is a great product and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good wireless router.

For my Birthday in May, I used the money from my birthday to get an Airport Extreme Dual Band to replace my Asanta FrriendlyNet 1003 router, since it was crashing too often as well as giving "Busy" messages on the admin page (aka no login). I wanted a router with gigabit since my MDD G4 and Mac Pro 2007 both have gigabit ethernet. Enjoy the unboxing. I have allot more unboxing videos to post if people are interested.

This is an unboxing of the most recent (June 2011) Airport Extreme. It is not small (about the same size as the old TV) but it really is a good device. The range is supposed to be farther and stronger than the previous model. It will defiantly help with putting up videos.

Our old router crapped out about 3 days ago. My birthday is coming up, so I got an Airport Extreme for my birthday. When I said "as for the old one," the sound that followed was supposed to be the sound of me pumping a shotgun. My brother thought it would be funny to lock the pump, so that's the "damn it" and all that... The pumping sound also came across bad, but whatever.
Upgrading my 2nd gen. Apple AirPort Extreme base station to this 5th generation model. I noticed my WIFI range extended further around my house and WIFI signals are stronger. My wireless speeds have more than doubled since swapping out for this new 5th generation model. The best part of all is that "it's just work" and super easily to set up.
