NATO warplanes bombed Libyan state TV satellite transmitters in Tripoli overnight on Friday. A series of loud explosions echoed across the capital before dawn. There was no immediate comment from Libyan officials on what had been hit, but state TV was still on the air in Tripoli on Saturday morning. NATO said the air strikes aimed to degrade Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's "use of satellite television as a means to intimidate the Libyan people and incite acts of violence against them". The attempt to silence the government's TV broadcasts comes at a sensitive time for the rebels, who appeared to be in disarray after the mysterious death of their chief military commander. Airstrikes in Libya did not take place - Russian military
The reports of Libya mobilizing its air force against its own people spread quickly around the world. However, Russia's military chiefs say they have been monitoring from space -- and the pictures tell a different story. According to Al Jazeera and BBC, on February 22 Libyan government inflicted airstrikes on Benghazi -- the country's largest city -- and on the capital Tripoli. However, the Russian military, monitoring the unrest via satellite from the very beginning, says nothing of the sort was going on on the ground. At this point, the Russian military is saying that, as far as they are concerned, the attacks some media were reporting have never occurred. According to a military spokesman, NATO helicopters carried out unprovoked and indiscriminate firing on a Pakistani checkpost in Mohmand agency last night. Security officials in the Mohmand tribal region near the Afghan border and a military official in Peshawar said 20 troops including two officers were killed in the pre-dawn incident. They said the attack took place on the Salala checkpost in the Baizai district of the rugged tribal terrain. NATO confirmed it was aware of "an incident" near the border and said it was investigating. All entry and exit points of Mohmand Agency were sealed by the security forces after the incident.

French Air strikes on Libyan ground-to-air missile France has increased the number of sorties they fly over the country from an average of around 30 per week since the beginning of coalition action to 41 this week. Military vehicles and tanks were the main targets around the besieged city of Misurata while two ground-to-air missile launchers were also hit near the Gaddafi stronghold of Sirte according to defense ministry spokesman Thierry Burkhard. Gadhafi orders air strikes on protesters, hundreds dead in Libya
Libyans are digging their heels in protests in key cities - despite the violent response from the police as they try to curb the anti-government demonstrations. World leaders are rounding on Libyan authorities - calling for an immediate end to the clashes. Increasing numbers of protesters are demanding for an end to the 41-year rule of Colonel Gaddafi. Hundreds have been killed and over a thousand injured during a week of unrest, with reports of airstrikes from the country's own military on Monday. Rumours spread that the Libyan leader had fled the trouble, but Gaddafi later made a brief and defiant TV appearance saying he was still in the country. One of his sons blamed exiles and outsiders for pushing Libya to the brink of civil war, and denied that live ammunition was being used on demonstrators. Some Libyan ambassadors have quit over the use of force on civilians in protest, and want the UN to intervene.

Operation Odyssey Dawn is the code name for the United States military's participation in enforcement of the current Libyan no-fly zone. The United Kingdom counterpart to this is Operation Ellamy, the Canadian is Operation MOBILE and the French is Opération Harmattan. The first main strike involved the launch of 114 Tomahawk cruise missiles from US and UK ships against shoreline air defenses of the Gaddafi regime. 'This can't be justified': 7 civilians die in NATO friendly fire
At least seven civilians in Libya have been killed by a NATO airstrike which hit a residential area overnight. Earlier, the Alliance confirmed it had mistakenly attacked rebel forces, but the number killed in that friendly-fire attack is not known. In the middle of the night, Tripoli's Souk al-Juma district was woken up by a blast, when a bomb, or several bombs, landed in this residential area. Several three-story buildings have been destroyed as a result. According to initial reports, four families -- 12 to 14 people -- resided there, and at least seven inhabitants have been killed, while some are still missing. The Libyan capital woke today to the heaviest NATO shelling there since the beginning of the international campaign.Tripoli reports three people were killed and dozens injured during twenty minutes of strikes.
