In the spectrum of alternative fuel sources, biofuel made from algae is perhaps the most easily mocked. So when President Obama stood before the University of Miami recently and said he thought algae could provide up to 17 percent of our transportation fuel, we wanted to know: is he right?
In 2008, O'Reilly suggested the government "mandate by law" that auto companies increase production of electric and flex fuel cars (which can run on 85% ethanol), and provide tax exemptions for flex fuel vehicles. But today, O'Reilly is complaining about government incentives for electric cars and distorting the safety record of the Volt, which was found to be just as safe as a conventional car.
Gas prices unexpectedly roared into record territory in February. That surge forced San Diego drivers to consider their pocketbooks when refueling. It also has some drivers considering other ways to power their cars. KPBS Business and Environmental Reporter Erik Anderson says high gas prices are pushing up the value of alternative fuels.

This project is a follow up to my work on the Alternative Fuel Generator. We have adapted the basic fuel vapor system to operate on a 2.3 liter Isuzu Amigo engine. With this set up the car is capable of speeds in excess of 45 miles per hour.The cars fuel mileage will be computed after road tests are completed. This vehicle is capable of operating on contaminated fuel, just like the generator although I don't intend to do that at this time. After building my alternative fuel generator and trying every experiment that I could dream up, I have come to the following conclusions. My system is running on gasoline vapors. Although it will improve its performance by injecting water in the mix,it is still running on fuel vapors. I don't believe anyone can take the gasoline out of the mix and make the engine run. The great thing about this system is it can run on contaminated fuel.all day long, and burn half the normal amount of fuel. This is not a trick engine that bubbles a mixture of gas and water.,and needs to be adjusted every five minutes this engine can actually do work for prolonged periods of time. If anyone can take the combustionable fuel out of the mixture I for one would like to see it. Results are as follows. 1. No bubblers needed 2. No ultrasonics needed 3. No reactor rods needed 4. No fancy plumbing needed. Just plain clean fuel vapors are needed, along with a system to maintain correct fuel mixtures. Water can be added using ultrasonics for a significant increase in power. After many hours of studying Paul Pantone's Geet reactor or fuel vaporizer system, I decided to take a shot at building one. I used a surplus four cylinder Wisconsin generator. The engine had twin vertical exhaust pipes,so I built the Geet system with two fuel vaporizers. Each rod is 7" long and 15/16 dia. inside two smooth bored intake pipes surrounded by the exhaust. I installed two 9" x 4" bubblers, using two marine sea strainer units. Using the bubbler system I was able to run the unit on a 50/50 gas and water mixture but through the testing I have done, the engine is only consuming a 25% water to gas mixture. In order to achieve this result you must constantly change your mixture control valves as the fuel level decreases. I than realized that all the engines I saw run this way were running on small bubbler systems and as the levels of fuel decreased the fuel mixture would change over time. In order to solve this problem I developed a continuous feed tank that stirs and recirculates the fuel. I have also added two ultrasonic transducers to the bubbler system for a much finer vapor. The unit now runs great and can run for prolonged periods of time without changing the fuel mixtures. The normal burn rate for this unit at 1800 RPM is 1.66 gal per hr. I am now achieving 1 gal. per hr.and can run with a 25% to 75% water to gas mixture. I have also checked the reactor rod temps. and they run about 250 degrees. Although I don't see any indication of a plasma reaction I do <b>...</b>

Congressman Peter Roskam discusses his solutions to our energy needs, and the disappointing lack of bipartisan efforts to bring relief to American families. Congressman Roskam offered an amendment to HR 6063, the NASA Authorization Act, that would have struck from the bill plans for a Deep Space Climate Observatory and instead would have created a research and development initiative for an alternative fuel for commercial aviation. The amendment directed the initiative to consider the need to reduce our reliance on foreign sources of energy, provide stability to the airline industry, and reduce emissions. This effort would have brought energy relief to US consumers and businesses by harnessing American innovation and directing it toward energy solutions for the aviation industry.

Many alternative fuels that may help slow down global warming suffer from technical barriers. Hydrogen and methane gas (also called 'natural gas') are both more environmentally friendly than gasoline, but contain very little energy per unit of volume. This video shows how self-assembled porous materials can lead to fuel tanks that are able to highly concentrate gaseous fuels and thus hold a lot of energy in a small space.
