Bob 'Bing' Crosby played by actor Steve Coogan has always been popular with friends and others around his area but he has a gambling problem, meaning he cannot resist the temptation to bet on horse races.[2][3] Bernadette (Lisa Millett) is Bob's childhood friend who became his lover and is now the mother of their son Joe, played by actor Dominic Senior. While she has often been angered by her husband's casual gambling habits, she has always forgiven him. When Bob bets more money and the stakes are raised, he could lose everything, including the wife and son he loves. At the end of the first episode, he bets his family's Disneyland fund on a 'dead cert' and loses it all. Bernadette kicks him out of the house, and he goes to sleep in the box room at his father's house. Bernadette and Joe move to a flat due to the reduced living costs - they are unable to afford a house because of Bing's absence. Joe begins to save up to buy his father a television. However, Bing steals this money to gamble. He returns home, and is confronted by his father. Bing reveals that he was unable to do it and returns the money. He admits that he has a gambling problem.

Shampù was my sister. She passed away on February 3rd, suddenly, and I can tell you that it has been the worst day of my life and that's also when I realized I never had one before. Shampù wasn't famous; she was "only" my dog, the best friend that I've never found in a person. But she had a lot to teach to the world, as many animals do. Thanks to her, I learned many things about life...She loved unconditionally, uninterrupdtely and lived for her family. She didn't ask for anything in exchange, she just loved, loved and loved. We grew up together, we stood side by side for 13 years, in a perfect symbiosis, but she has always been superior. 'Cause I had many distractions in my life; I must admit sometimes I left her aside, but through everything she was my guide, my untiring fellow, always present even If I didn't notice her. All she needed to go ahead was our presence, our attention, a caress, her daily routine at home, nothing more. She has always forgiven everything and everyone, she didn't know what remorse, frustration, cruelty are. Adding darkness to darkness does nothing to intensify its effect. It equals the same as it did before. However, adding light to darkness, no matter how small always makes a difference. Likewise, hating someone with more intensity than they hate you does nothing to improve the situation.
