First Contact with Tribes in The Amazon Rainforest

This is video from my first contact with the Indigenous people of the Amazon Rainforest. The first people in this video are the Bora Tribe. They are a massive tribe in the Amazon Rainforest. Their numbers are thought to be around 3000 strong. However this is a far cry from the estimated 30000 that ruled this land until the 1960's. The Bora were used as slaves during the rubber boom and almost completely decimated. They have come back and now cover the jungles of Peru and Columbia. I spent a good deal of time with these people and the Chief is quite fond of me. I have an open invitation to stay with this tribe. The second set of people. The ones wearing clothes are the Nuevo Progresso Tribe. This is the tribe I chose to live with. They have no electricity, no running water, and they survive largely by farming and hunting. These are beautiful people and I had many great experiences with them as I was learning how to survive in the rainforest. Living in the rainforest was one of the hardest things I had ever taken on. My first two weeks in the jungle were extremely uncomfortable, but as I assimilated the culture and the energy of the rainforest things began to get very clear. I found myself at complete peace.

Amazon Rainforest, Ecuador

A four-day journey into the rainforest of El Oriente, Upper Amazon Basin, Ecuador, 2003-4. We took a bus from Quito to the tiny town and jungle outpost of Tena, where we hired a taxi and went further east to a point along Rio Napo called Puerto Barantilla, where we took a boat to our jungle lodge near the mouth of Rio Arajuno. Over the next three days, we explored the region with local guides, including a memorable all-day hike through primordial forest, buzzing with streams and massive diversity of life. We also went river rafting one day after assembling a raft out of logs with our guide's help, and hiked to amaZOOnico, an animal rescue and rehabilitation center run by local and overseas volunteers. Here we saw some of the great variety of Amazonian wildlife, including macaws, toucans, trumpet birds, tortoise, many kinds of monkeys, jaguars, ocelots, peccaries, tapirs, capybaras, agoutis, etc. The lodge served all of our meals. Dinner staple was fish with vegetables, rice, yucca or plantain, and tropical fruit, served by candlelight (the lodge had no electricity). The mosquitoes were large and vicious. The forest comes alive at night with the sound of a gazillion crickets.

If you also desire an "Amazon Rainforest Forever" subscribe our manifesto. After obtaining a substantial amount of signatures, it will be forwarded to Brazil's President enabling him to take the necessary measures to solve this serious Brazilian and worldwide problem: The devastation of the Amazon Rainforest. Your participation is very important! BRAZILIAN ARTIST'S OPEN LETTER ON THE AMAZON DEFORESTATION We just celebrated the smallest Amazon Rainforest deforestation rate of the past three years: 17 thousand square kilometers. This corresponds almost to the half size of the Netherlands. We have already been able to destroy 16% of the total rainforest area, which corresponds to twice the size of Germany and three areas corresponding to the state of Sao Paulo. We do not have a reason to celebrate it at all. Amazon is not planet's lung, but renders services to Brazil and to the world. This green vastness extending over five million square kilometers is a thermal layer generated by nature to prevent the sunrays from reaching the ground, and thus enabling the existence of the most luxuriant forest on earth, which helps to regulate the planet's temperature. It has been tilted in its exuberance, raped by unscrupulous lumberjacks, who set its emerald coverage on fire, giving way to foreigners that humiliate the forest by planting pasture or soybean over its centenary chestnut-tree ashes. In spite of the extraordinary effort for conservation unit implementation as an alternative ...

Amazon Rain Forest Deforestation Crackdown

CHAN: Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon Rain Forest fell over 20 percent in June. The drop follows an intensified crackdown on illegal logging and cattle ranching. STORY: Deforestation of Brazil's Amazon Rain Forest fell over twenty percent in June. Environment Minister Carlos Minc says government pressure has been driving deforestation down. [Carlos Minc, Brazilian Environment Minister]: "I think deforestation rates are still very high and I think it's unacceptable, that is, we are not celebrating here. But anyhow, it is less worrisome that the negative trend began to decline precisely in the months when we expected numbers to rise." Environmentalists are concerned that rising grain prices may lead farmers to expand their planted areas, pushing the agricultural frontier deeper into the forest. The Environment Ministry said cattle ranching occupies as much as 80 percent of deforested Amazon areas, where an estimated 25 million heads of cattle are raised. Last month about 10000 head of cattle were seized for illegal grazing. Eleazar Volpato a forest engineering professor at the University of Brasilia, said the government must promote more preventive measures. [Eleazar Volpato, Professor, University of Brasilia]: "We can't wait to act only after deforestation has already occurred and we also can't depend only on the Police. We must use instruments that promote (sustainable) activities in the rain forest." The government of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has increased ...

Amazonian Indians from the Amazon Rain Forest

The Matis Indians of Brazil practice a unique ritual named the Ceremony of Mariwin. During this ritual, masked beings punish individuals who have recently misbehaved, especially women and children. To the Matis Indians, these masked beings are "ancestral spirits," yet are not human are unable to speak, only making animal-like sounds. Two seperate ceremonies are shown, one performed in Brazil and the other one in Peru. Additionally, they show how they can make fire without matches and hunt with blowguns and poison curare darts. Changes to Brazilian law threaten the Amazon rainforest

Brazil has a piece of legislation called the forest code which is responsible for protecting much of the Amazon rainforest. However, changes are being proposed which would radically increase the amount of forest land owners can chop down, spelling disaster for the forest, the environment and the climate. savingtheamazon.com Amazon Herb Co. The Next Legacy Company A legacy network marketing company is a business which is the full package (fits the ten characteristics below). It crosses borders which have never been crossed before, and essentially changes the world (and obviously grows to huge revenues because of all this). Melaleuca is the most recent legacy network marketing company, and Monavie is very close after their opening in 2005 but they are still very young. An experienced veteran in the network marketing industry, Terrel Transtrum, has said that the Amazon Herb Company is the next legacy company. As it grows, it will change many peoples lives forever, halt deforestation in the Amazon, and protect the Amazonian inhabitants . It is said that there are ten things which make up the profile of a legacy company. I will list them, then next to each we will see how Amazon Herb Co. fits in. Explode - this is what the Amazon Herb Company is about to do 1) Window of Operation A true legacy company takes, more or less, ten years of operation before hitting stride. They have slow growth in the beginning while growing confidence and fine-tuning their operations. Ten years of operation shows nice longevity, and twenty-five years is an amazing feat.
