There is a long history of American tax dollars being used to help people get rich off of illicit drug sales. RT's Ramon Galindo talked to one of America's largest drug kingpins and shows us how Los Angeles has been unable to shake the demons of its addiction.

The truth about North America's greatest drug problem: Ritalin On any given day in North America, almost five million kids will take a powerful psychostimulant drug. The geographical caveat is important: more kids in North America are diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (ADD) and given drugs like Ritalin to "help" them behave than in the rest of the world combined. In fact, the US and Canada account for a startling 95 percent of worldwide Ritalin consumption. Ritalin is little more than coke for kids. "Cocaine, which is one of the most reinforcing and addictive of the abused drugs, has pharmacological actions that are very similar to those of methylphenidate [Ritalin], which is the most commonly prescribed psycho-tropic medication for children in the United States." US Drug Enforcement Administration has long known that massive amounts of Ritalin are being diverted by adolescents and adults into recreational use, where it's often crushed up and snorted, or even injected. The DEA reported that Ritalin misuse in high schools increased from three to 16 percent from 1992 to 1995. Similarly, it found that while children between the ages of ten and 14 were involved in about 25 emergency-room visits connected with Ritalin misuse in 1991, this number had jumped to 1725 by 1998. Alex talks with Glenn Spencer, an activist who advocates greater vigilance in securing the United States--Mexico border against illegal immigration. Spencer is the founder of the American Border Patrol group based in Sierra Vista, Arizona. American Border Patrol is a private, non-governmental, organization with the stated purpose of informing Americans about the border. It is known for using small, radio-controlled aircraft and ground sensing equipment to track illegal immigrants, and then relaying that information to the US Border Patrol. America which is known as the freest country in the world has incarcerated more of it's citizens than the rest of the world combined. 7.1 million Americans are either in prison, on probation or under correctional supervision. The numbers continue to climb each year as more prisons are built nationwide. News journalist Fareed Zakaria from CNN goes in depth to show viewers how much the American government as well as private corporations spend building prisons apposed to schools. He goes on to say that our elected officials have been bought out by lobbyist. They want the politicians to pave the way for more prisons by passing more laws of enslavement to insure a steady flow of inmates to occupy the cells. America has entered into a hell like period where people are worth more in prison than free and working as all jobs are being shipped to China. America is being de-industrialized and destroyed by design in the name of clean energy and saving the planet. Government staged terror attacks are giving them the excuse to spy on Americans and destroy the Constitution which protects our freedom. An open air prison is being built around the population in the name of safety and security and the majority of people believe the government wants to protect them from terror which is government sponsored to create an atmosphere of fear. It appears that things will have to get much worse before people realize the US government has been high-jacked by International Bankers that now control ...

Using government statistics, expert interviews and a large dose of humor, HIGH takes a fresh look at this hot button issue and asks just how much this "war" costs Americans in money, stress, and even lives. There's a violent drug treatment program that tortured children; an overbearing drug czar that doesn't care for the people he hurts in his quest; patients who are being denied the medications they need; doctors being prosecuted for trying to help them; and a substance that we all know of, but nobody wants to talk about. ***The first few minutes are in dutch, but the rest is in english. The war on drugs has been going on for more than three decades. ... all » Today, nearly 500000 Americans are imprisoned on drug charges. In 1980 the number was 50000. Last year $40 billion in taxpayer dollars were spent in fighting the war on drugs. As a result of the incarceration obsession, the United States operates the largest prison system on the planet, and the US nonviolent prisoner population is larger than the combined populations of Wyoming and Alaska. Try to imagine the Drug Enforcement Administration erecting razor wire barricades around two states to control crime and you'll get the picture. According to the US Dept of Justice, the number of offenders under age 18 imprisoned for drug offenses increased twelvefold from 1985 to 1997. The group most affected by this propensity for incarceration is African-Americans. From 1985 to 1997, the percentage of African-American young people put in prison increased from 53 to 62 percent. Today, 89 percent of police departments have paramilitary units, and 46 percent have been trained by active duty armed forces. The most common use of paramilitary units is serving drug-related search warrants, which usually involve no-knock entries into private homes.

Be My Friend - www.myspace.com Ex-Pharma Sales Reps talks about manipulating doctors to sell more drugs. In this video Gwen discusses some of the tactics used by some pharmaceutical sales reps to get doctors to prescribe their drugs. This included tactics like minimizing harmful side effects to doctors, presenting statistics in a slanted way, accusing anyone that speaks out against psychiatric drugs as being a Scientologist, psychological profiling of doctors to best know how to convince them to prescribe your drugs, etc. Gwen Olsen spent fifteen years as a pharmaceutical sales rep working for such healthcare giants as Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Abbott Laboratories. She enjoyed a successful, fast-paced career until several conscious-altering experiences began awakening her to the dangers lurking in every American medicine cabinet. Her most poignant lessons, however, came as both victim and survivor of life-threatening adverse drug reactions. After leaving pharmaceutical sales in 2000, Gwen worked in the natural foods industry first as an Account Manager for Nature's Way, and then as a Regional Sales Manager for Gaia Herbs. The American Medical Association and the National Institute on Drug Abuse, among others, have documented the negative impacts of marijuana use on the human body. The use of illegal drugs affects the quality of life for all Americans. Drug abuse, trafficking and the resulting violence negatively affects our communities and places undue burdens on the legal and healthcare systems. The Quiet Epidemic: prescription drug abuse destroys millions of lives Nancy Rosen-Cohen The Baltimore Sun There isn't much attention paid to prescription drug abuse, except perhaps when a Hollywood star dies from an overdose. However, it is estimated that nearly one in five Americans has used prescription drugs for nonmedicinal reasons, and 15 percent may be abusing prescription drugs. This silent epidemic has become the leading cause of addiction. This week, the Maryland Chapter of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence and the University of Maryland Medical Center sponsored the annual Tuerk Conference, a gathering of 1200 health professionals working in the field of addictions to focus on treatment and prevention of prescription drug abuse. Confronting and debunking the common myth that prescription drugs are less deadly and less addictive was one of the items on the agenda. The dangers of prescription drug abuse are growing at an exponential rate. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of prescriptions written increased by 61 percent, but the number of prescriptions written for opiates increased by almost 400 percent. Opiates reflect three-quarters of all prescription drugs abused. Actor Heath Ledger had Vicodin (hydrocodone), OxyContin (oxycodone), Valium (diazepam), and Xanax (alprazolam) in his bloodstream when he died. All are legal opiates. A public majority has spoken and said yes to states rights, allowing for the use of medicinal marijuana and opening up a new front in controversial medicinal 'dispensaries.' While users herald the freedom of legally-licensed "weed," powerful forces at the DEA and law enforcement haven't given up their federal enforcement power yet. Many dispensaries have been raided, targeting their distribution of marijuana and challenging their authority to rise into legitimate business. The steady stream of celebrity stories about prescription drug abuse makes Americans keenly aware of the dangers of overdosing on medications like OxyContin and Vicodin. And from President Obama's Drug Czar to California Attorney General Jerry Brown, politicians are calling for greater power to monitor doctor-patient relationships in order to fight the "epidemic" of prescription drug overdosing. But maybe the real epidemic is underdosing. Countless Americans suffer with severe chronic pain because doctors are afraid to treat them properly. Michael Jackson's death unleashed a flurry of media stories about all aspects of the pop star's life, including his alleged prescription drug abuse. On the same day countless millions watched Jackson's star-studded memorial service, reason.tv interviewed another musician. Despite a record high level of support for marijuana legalization in America (according to polls by Rasmussen and Gallup), it appears President Obama may look to export anti-terrorist tactics to fight the war on drugs when he speaks at the Summit of the Americas. According to The Raw Story "...South American leaders will demand that the US hear their arguments on drug legalization. Much as the US argues for specialized tactics and military force to counter the drug gangs, South American nations like Colombia — a key US military ally — are pushing for a less violent approach to counter the cartels that works through simple economics. Specifically, legalization would undercut the gangs' profits tremendously, which many believe would have a pacifying effect on the supply-side marketplace, currently drenched in blood from Peru to Mexico's northern border. Former presidents of Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and even one former US Secretary of State all agree that America's drug war has failed and a new strategy is needed...".* The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read More Here: www.rawstory.com www.rawstory.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. 10 years ago, Lisbon and many other Portuguese cites were a horrible place to be. They were filled with drugs and crime . However, thanks to the recent change in Portugal's drug strategy and stance on drugs, the country's drug problem is no longer even close to bad. Neither is general crime and drug related health problems. The country has also saved a tonne of money (which has been used for drug education, etc), and relieved its criminal justice system (a lot of only drug users were classified as criminals before) This is because of the way that Portugal took a progressive stance on drugs. The country tends to treat drugs and use of them as a Health concern rather than classifying users and anything to do with drugs (except for the distributors of them) as criminal. AMERICANS... Keeping drugs illegal is profitable for the drug cartels, banks that launder drug money, prison-industrial complex's that profits incarcerating people, and this grows big government and government agencies that fight drugs costing YOU money (your taxes go to this) . Call for a STOP to the ridiculous and failed war on drugs now. America needs to change first before other countries. On June 17, 1971 President Richard Nixon launched the modern-day drug war, an effort perpetuated by every one of his successors. As the reform group Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) documents in a new comprehensive study, the drug war has destroyed lives and property, shredded the constitution, and distorted American education, health care, and even foreign policy. That's why, notes LEAP, fully 75 percent of Americans and 69 percent of police chiefs agree that the drug war has failed. Reason's Nick Gillespie talked with LEAP's Executive Director Neill Franklin, a retired major in the Maryland State Police. As Franklin explains, he was one of the most bellicose drug warriors around until a comrade was killed during an undercover operation. The best way, argues Franklin, we can pay tribute to his fallen friend - and all the other people whose lives have been laid waste by a war on drugs that has caused far more bad than good - is to turn away from prohibition and embrace regulation and control similar to that used for alcohol. Shot by Jim Epstein and Joshua Swain, who also edited. A video highlighting the social, political, and economic failures of America's War on Drugs. Howard Colvin (The Wire): I mean, you call something a war and pretty soon everybody gonna be running around acting like warriors. They gonna be running around on a damn crusade, storming corners, slapping on cuffs, racking up body counts. And when you at war, you need a fucking enemy. And pretty soon, damn near everybody on every corner is your fucking enemy. And soon the neighborhood that you're supposed to be policing, that's just occupied territory. David Simon: The people most affected by this are black and brown and poor. It's the abandoned inner cores of our urban areas. And we don't, as we said before, economically, we don't need those people. The American economy doesn't need them. So, as long as they stay in their ghettos, and they only kill each other, we're willing to pay a police presence to keep them out of our America. And to let them fight over scraps, which is what the drug war, effectively, is. The war on drugs is a war on the underclass, that's all it is. It has no other meaning. If you could be Draconian and reduce drug use by locking people up, you might have an argument. But we are the jailing-est country on the planet right now. Two million people in prison. When I started as a police reporter, 33, 34 percent of the federal inmate population was violent offenders. Now it's like, seven to eight percent. So, we're locking up less violent people. Consider if there was a way to deliver just the right amount of these powerful pharmacologic agents at just the right time and to just the parts of the human body that needed it, avoiding systemic side effects and improving the quality of life for patients. That approach would be the vehicle for radical progress in the fight against disease like Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, Multiple Sclerosis, and Depression, among others.

Via The Raw Story: "Mexican police on Monday searched for perpetrators of a drug-war massacre in which 49 people were killed, decapitated, dismembered and left in plastic bags on the side of a highway. The mutilated corpses, whose hands had been cut off to prevent fingerprint identification, were discovered close to the northern city of Monterrey, 180 kilometers (110 miles) from the US border...".* Ana Kasparian and Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks blame the failed drug war imported from the United States. *Read more from Agence France-Presse: www.rawstory.com Subscribe to The Young Turks: bit.ly Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com The Largest Online New Show in the World. The United States government allegedly infused drugs into our inner cities in order to keep minorities down and destabilize world governments. Radio host Alex Jones says it wasn't just about destabilizing inner cities and financing revolutions overseas. It was also about the 100 of billions of dollars laundered in drugs through large western banks, they then lobbied Congress to expand prison complexes they own and sell stock in.

Retired LAPD deputy chief of police Stephen Downing asks President Obama about the growing support for marijuana legalization among voters. Stephen is a member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, which anyone can join for free at www.CopsSayLegalizeDrugs.com. YouTube Ignores Cop's First Place Marijuana Legalization Video Question for Obama Site Finds Time for Questions About Dancing, Late-Night Snacks and Playing Tennis WASHINGTON, DC -- Today YouTube ignored a question advocating marijuana legalization from a retired LAPD deputy chief of police that won twice as many votes as any other video question in the White House's "Your Interview with the President" competition on the Google-owned site. They did, however, find the time to get the president on record about late night snacking, singing and dancing, celebrating wedding anniversaries and playing tennis. Stephen Downing, the retired LAPD police officer and a board member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP), had this to say about the site ignoring his question "It's worse than silly that YouTube and Google would waste the time of the president and of the American people discussing things like midnight snacks and playing tennis when there is a much more pressing question on the minds of the people who took the time to participate in voting on submissions. A majority of Americans now support legalizing marijuana to de-fund cartels and gangs, lower incarceration and arrest rates and save scarce public ...

The day of the Smoking Gun has arrived. The discovery of a page, on the FDA's own website, proves the FDA is fully aware that: the drugs it certifies as safe have been killing Americans, at the rate of 100000 per year. The FDA website page is currently available under the heading, "Why Learn About Adverse Drug Reactions," and it can be Googled. (Click here to go directly to the FDA page.) The implications of this Smoking Gun are hard to grasp in any rational way. The FDA takes no blame, no responsibility for its actions, and yet it admits the death statistics are accurate. A dvertisement As an investigative reporter, I have been tracking and writing about pharmaceutically-caused deaths for 10 years. I have, on numerous occasions, cited Dr. Barbara Starfield's report in the July 26th, 2000, Journal of the American Medical Association, in which she presents the figure of 106000 deaths per year, in America, as a result of these drugs. I have claimed that the federal government and, in particular, the FDA, are aware of these numbers. And now the page on the FDA's own website confirms the death toll. Yet, nowhere do we see the FDA taking one shred of responsibility for this ongoing holocaust. Holocaust? Add up the figures. Medical drugs cause 100000 deaths in America every year: that means a million Americans are killed every decade. Understand this very clearly. No medical drug in America can be released for public use until and unless the FDA states it is safe. The FDA is ...

Gary Webb, the Pulitzer prize-winning reporter who broke the story of the CIAs involvement in the importation of cocaine into the US, died December 10, 2004, reportedly from self-inflicted gunshots to the head. It was a tragic end to a brilliant, and tragic, career. In August 1996, the San Jose Mercury News published Webbs 20000 word, three-part series entitled Dark Alliance. The articles detailed the nexus between a California coke kingpin, CIA officials and assets and the Nicaraguan Contra army, whose funding had been cut off by an act of Congress in the mid-80s. Webb found evidence that the CIA had direct contact with the smugglers, knew the proceeds were going to fund the murderous Contras, and tried to cover it up when other law enforcement agencies began investigating. The most troubling aspect to the story was that the central player was no ordinary drug lord. He was the man many credit for popularizing crack, the highly addictive, smoke-able form of cocaine. For many African-Americans, the story smacked of a grand conspiracy to destroy the black community. There were rallies in Watts and Compton, and heated discussions on black media across the country. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus called for a federal investigation. In November 1996, CIA director John Deutch appeared at Locke High School in South Central Los Angeles to personally answer to the allegations. He was met with loud jeers. It was a PR disaster. But it was Webb who found himself on the ...
