Since then she has had to rely on a network of foster homes and dedicated volunteers. Despite these limitations, she finds homes for over 1500 cats and dogs a year. Now, however, she is facing a new threat that may mean the demise of this vital Central Florida resource. Orange County Code Enforcement has found her in violation of code and given her six months to come into compliance or face fines of $250/day. Since Code Enforcement will not tell her in what way she is "out of compliance" this essentially means Judy has to move or shut down her rescue! Judy has six months to relocate and is asking communities in the tri-county area to offer suggestions. She is searching for a small parcel of land, zoned for industrial use, that has power and water to it and can be fenced! More importantly, she wants to relocate to an area whose community will welcome her and her cause. For those of you who are against euthanasia, against the "catch and kill" cycle of some pounds, and against gassing shelters, please know that Judy has saved many dogs and cats from these situations. A tribute to Katrina Animal Rescue..... Especially those volunteering at Camp Katrina, located in Tylertown, MS. and those working at the Winn Dixie in downtown New Orleans. The pictures of the dogs in the water came from various associated press releases after the hurricane. Those pictures were what made me decide to head down to help. Myself, two other technicians and a veterinarian from where I work all headed down, not knowing what we'd find. We arrived just as the camp was getting started. We were the first medical team in the camp. There were people from all walks of life, all races, all religion, all political views. It didn't matter...we were all there for one goal: To rescue and save the animals who fell victim to Hurricane Katrina. The other pictures in the clip were taken by various volunteers in the camp: Lisa & Tammy, Chuck, Carebear, Gonzo, Kimmy and myself. If you see this video and find one of your pictures here and I haven't credited you, please leave me a comment and I'll make sure you get the credit you so richly deserve. The song is by the country band "Sugarland" and called "Stand Back Up". I heard it for the first time after arriving home from Tylertown. THE FIRST PART OF THE VIDEO HAS NO AUDIO. THIS IS ON PURPOSE. My name is Terri Keefer. I went to New Orleans for animal rescue, five weeks post Katrina. There was a temporary shelter housing all animals, about one hour outside of New Orleans. It was called Lamar-Dixon in Gonzales, LA. We took care of animals there, before most were transported out of state. No one in Louisiana would take them. The animals in the city were terrified, and many would run from us. Others were injured, sick, aggressive or already dead. We did everything we could to save just one animal. We spent two hours prying an air conditioner out of a window only to find the cat we were trying to save was dead. I want to commend all rescuers for their tireless efforts, hard work and willingness to live in extreme conditions (mosquitoes, 103 degree heat, lack of food). I had never attempted animal rescue before this, now it is a huge part of my life. Most of the photos I took while literally running from place to place. Some of the field rescue photos were generously given to me by HSUS to use for my non-profit, non-commercial, personal video account of my time spent there. Thanks for watching. A dog which was rescued at sea off the coast of Kesennuma, Japan, on Friday after being found drifting on a roof is believed to have survived for three weeks after being washed away by the killer tsunami triggered by the March 11 earthquake. Coast guard members aboard a helicopter involved in the day's search for those still missing after the disaster found the dog on the roof drifting along some 1.8 kilometres off Kesennuma, Miyagi Prefecture. It took several hours to catch the dog and bring him to the safety of a coastguard vessel. The dog's collar has no clues about the owner such as address and contact numbers. CBS News RAW: The Japanese Coast Guard has rescued a dog found on the roof of a house floating at sea. It's unclear if the dog could have been at sea for the three weeks since the Japanese earthquake and tsunami. The rescue marked the first day of a massive three-day search and recover mission.
