The credibility of the Arab League is on the line in Syria, as its observers prepare to visit three more cities at the heart of the anti-government protests. Activists say another 13 people have been killed across the country, on the second day of the mission to monitor the violence there. The observers are led by Mustafa al Dabi, a Sudanese general who previously served in Darfur. His initial reaction was that his monitors had seen "nothing frightening" on their first visit to the flashpoint city of Homs on Tuesday. France and Russia have both called for Arab League monitors to be given more freedom of travel to determine the real situation. Al Jazeera's journalists aren't allowed into Syria, so Dorsa Jabbari sent this report from Beirut.

Russia's assessment of the cause of the Syrian unrest points the finger of blame firmly at an armed opposition. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also says it's time to stop dealing in ultimatums and get back to peace talks. Some groups in Syria's opposition say they want an Arab military intervention to, quote, 'protect civilians from government security forces'. They spoke after Damascus signed an Arab League protocol allowing observers to monitor a regional peace initiative to end months of bloodshed. Part of the opposition dismissed the deal as a stalling tactic. Cameraman Shot In Thailand Riots Hiro Muramoto's Footage Filmed Before Shooting Death Is Released World News Sky News Extraordinary footage taken by a cameraman of shocking violence in the Bangkok riots, moments before he was shot dead, has been released. The Japanese man was in the Thai capital covering the unrest for Reuters news agency. He filmed as the clashes between troops and anti-government protesters escalated and bullets began to fly. Some 21 people were killed in the weekend's violence - Hiro Muramoto was one of them. On Saturday, troops were trying clear one of two sites that had been occupied by the protesters for the past month. Heavily-armed officers were struggling to contain the protesters and the chaotic scenes quickly turned lethal. Mr Muramoto was stood within the ranks of Government troops when a homemade bomb thrown by protesters landed just yards from him. Unwavering, he continued to film as the troops started to retreat, some of them hopping away with injured feet and legs, and others carrying wounded comrades. Another bomb landed but Mr Muramoto still carried on filming. Just a short time later he was shot in the chest. He died before he got to hospital. His camera and it's film were returned to Reuters by the anti-government, red-shirt protesters.

LIBYAN REBELS CELEBRATE IN COMPOUND Libyan rebels are celebrating after finally breaching the walls of Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's compound - seizing his personal possessions, including a hat and golf buggy Alex Crawford, inside the perimeter wall, spoke to rebel fighters as many roared with delight and fired their guns into the air. Fighters swept through Bab al Aziziyah's buildings after days of street battles in the Libyan capital. Amid the elation, one rebel said: "It's just unbelievable. All the people that have sacrificed for us, for this moment. We're in front of his compound and where is he? He's underground, he can't do anything. Where is he?" As more rebels they stormed into the buildings, ripping down posters and attacking the iconic statue of the hand holding a US Apache plane. One man found Col Gaddafi's gold-trimmed hat in his bedroom inside the compound and was wearing it as he told Crawford he planned to give it to his father. He said: "He has suffered a lot from Gaddafi. I am proud of this moment which the Libyans have waited for 42 years for." However, doubts remain on both sides that the observers can provide a neutral verdict. The release of the detainees Wednesday follows the three-pronged Arab League plan that will see Damascus withdrawal government troops from residential areas, release prisoners and begin talks with the opposition.
