I'm actually going to make that tutorial in my next video. The benefits of installing the custom firmware is worth it. The user interface has a faster response, there are various app compability fixes, as well as portrait and landscape fixes, and the battery life is noticeably longer. The overall user experience is just better on the custom firmware. My following videos on the aPad will be more focused on reviewing the tablet. I won't showcase apps until the next video (which will have a better firmware). It will also include tips and tutorials on how to make the aPad experience as good as an iPad's. This is running rogerbraun's custom firmware version 5.1 at the moment. Let me start by saying, there are a handful of browsers, each with their own unique capabilities. I'll be focusing on the top three. The first one is the Google browser that's preinstalled in the system. This is a very clean looking browser. Its speed is about average, even when you have the websites cached. It has the ability to launch the websites in a fullscreen mode, with the page slightly cut off. The responsiveness is so-so, it should be faster if you have more memory on your aPad. All of these browsers have the ability to open multiple pages and they also properly change orientation when rotated. You can zoom out to view the entire page. The next browser is all about speed. This is the Opera Mini 5. It uses the same feature as Google Chrome which allows users to set their most visited websites as the homepage. So you can just click one of these preset links and go to your favorite pages right away. The browser also loads pages faster than the other browsers. Although the only complaint I have about this one is the lack of zoom <b>...</b>

The speaker on this isn't particularly strong. They usually ship these with earphones and using earphones, the volume is loud, but don't expect much from the speaker on the device. This song is in MP3 format. If you have a speaker that can connect using the 3.5mm jack on the aPad, the output sounds really good. Let me give an example. This is a JBL speaker. You can also play songs in the background while you load another app. Let's move on to the video player. This is a copy of Star Trek I ripped off my dvd for demonstration. The best resolution to use for video playback on the aPad is widescreen 480P. That's 720x480 pixels. This copy came with the black lines. Speaker volume is the same. The screen is a bit reflective and the viewing angle is limited, but it can play a full length video on one full charge. For this movie, I used AVI format encoded with XVID codec.
