Apple has traditionally held their Fall media events in the first part of September with the past three events taking place on September 1st, 2010, September 9th, 2009, and September 9th, 2008. Last year's event introduced new iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle models. This year's event, however, has been widely expected to also incorporate the rumored iPhone 5 announcement. We confirmed with Kodawarisan that the date was not the product of guesswork, but came from a source in the know.

Japanese site, Kodawarisan, claims that Apple's fall media event will be held on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011. Apple is expected to launch its much-waited device the iPhone 5 along with iCloud and iOS 5 announcement. It's expected also to launch the cheap iPhone 4 during this event. As MacRumors points out, Apple traditionally hold their Fall media events in early of September during the past three events which happened on September 1st, 2010, September 9th, 2009, and September 9th, 2008. Last year, Apple announced a new iPod touch, iPod nano and shuffle models. Apple's next-generation iPhone is rumored to launch in September then another report suggested the iPhone 5 won't actually be released until October. Sources claims that the iPhone 5 coming to Canada on October 1st so it might be launched in US in September then internationally in October. The Japanese site has confirmed that the date was not the product of guesswork, but came from a source in the know. Update!- please read: Apple's iPhone announcement to be held on home court. AllThingsD, which seems to have a bead on Apple's Fall Event, says the event will be held on Apple's campus. Sources close to the company say the demonstration will be held at Apple's campus in Cupertino, California. Why? That's not entirely clear. A large space like Yerba Buena Center for the Arts has hosted a number of big product unveils in the past. OracleWorld is happening in the Moscone/Yerba Buena area during the October 4th announcement so that could be a reason for the move. Though Yerba Buena, the usual venue for such announcements, isn't marked as booked. Also, Apple has much more control over the wireless access at its campus auditorium, something that had caused some issues during the iPhone 4 announcement. With all of the wireless devices in the audience, Steve Jobs had trouble demonstrating things like FaceTime and the improved speed of the iPhone 4. iPhone 5 Event: October 4th 2011 Apple today sent out invitations for the the event that will reveal the next generation iPhone. Presumably the iPhone 5 or iPhone 4s. On the invitation the phone app has a notification with a number 1. This could signify only one iPhone will be coming this fall with a minor upgrade. It could also represent the 1 new carrier getting the iPhone which would be Sprtint.
