Best ever English apple book back in print!!!
'The English Apple' by Rosanne Sanders is back in print! It is now titled 'The Apple Book' by Rosie Sanders, but as far as I can tell (let the buyer take care) it is the very same book. It is our favourite apple book by a mile. Our well used 1998 copy is a bit worn and we no longer take it out of the house except once a year for our Apple Day event to use to help identify apples. I saw a copy on Ebay recently, bidding was at £90. Amazon are selling it HALF PRICE as a special offer, only £12.50. I have ordered 2 copies, one to use, one to wrap up and lock away in a safe place for the future. I cannot possibly recommend this book too highly to anyone who loves the English apple. Worth buying for the gorgeous watercolour pictures alone, then you have to add the historical and other details for each fruit. It would also be worth buying for the text and diagrams which contain pretty much all you will ever need to know about apple growing. This is a good day for the English apple. Anyone who wants to buy a Christmas present for a loved one who is a gardener-problem solved!

Planning your backyard orchard-the best book I know
As I posted recently, Rosie Sanders 'The Apple Book ' is back in print (originally 'The English Apple') in a new expanded version which includes some American varieties. My copies (I ordered 2) arrived today and it is WONDERFUL. Reading this would really help anyone planning an orchard to understand what varieties to plant. Wherever I have checked the descriptions against apples I knew, the book was right-up side and down side. I have an extensive collection of fruit books going back to the 19th century plus facsimiles of some older books, this is in my view the best of the lot. £25 or $35 from Amazon, unless they are still offering the half price introductory offer which must be below cost. If anyone knows the artist, please give her a curtsey, bow, hug or kiss from me for painting the best apple watercolour pictures in the world ever. And if she ever visits Durley in Hampshire, she can use my wife's beautiful new art studio in the orchard whenever she likes. Julia won't mind.

For sale, the miniature set with the smell of dust from the times long gone: apple, book and the blackboard with chalks & sponge. Book is 1.8 cm high (0.70 inch), mix of hard covers and perfect binding, covered with faux leather and filled with hand drawn alphabet (capitals one per page and complete lower-case in two-page). Blackboard is around 1.6 cm (0.62 inch), frame is yew wood, hand carved. Board is made from scratch and has two fully functionable sides.
