Archival film of the ghettos in Dąbrowa Górnicza and Będzin part 1 of 2

Film shot in the ghettos of Dąbrowa Górnicza and Będzin, probably at the beginning of the ghettos. Dabrowa Górnicza is part of the Katowice conurbation. Jews settled in Dabrowa Gornicza in the middle of the 19th century. There were 4304 Jews living in Dabrowa Gornicza according to the 1921 census (11% of the total population). The German army captured Dabrowa Gornicza on 3 September 1939. In the fall of 1940 several hundred young Jewish men were deported to slave labor camps in Germany. Several hundred more were deported in the course of 1941. At the end of that year a ghetto was established. On 5 May 1942, the first deportation took place in which 630 Jews were taken to Auschwitz and exterminated. In the second deportation, conducted on 12 August 1942, another few hundred Jews were sent to their death in Auschwitz. On 26 June 1943, the ghetto in Dabrowa Gornicza was liquidated and all its inmates were transferred to the ghetto in Srodula (a suburb of Sosnowiec), the only ghetto still existing in Upper Silesia. It too was liquidated and all its inhabitants, including the Jews from Dabrowa Gornicza, deported to Auschwitz and killed. According to the 1921 census, there were 17298 Jews in Bedzin or 62.1 percent of its total population.[By 1938, the number of Jews had increased to about 22500. Situated close to the border, Bedzin was quickly captured by the Wehrmacht. On 7 September, persecution of the Jews began, with the instituting of economic sanctions. On 8 September ...

PIAGET'S DEVELOPMENTAL THEORY: AN OVERVIEW ( DAVIDSON FILMS )

The work of Jean Piaget has become the foundation of current developmental psychology and the basis for changes in educational practice. David Elkind, author of The Hurried Child and Miseducation, and a student of Jean Piaget, explores the roots of Piagets work and outlines important vocabulary and concepts that structure much of the study of child development. Using both archival film of Dr. Piaget and newly shot sequences of Dr. Elkind conducting interviews with children of varying ages, this film presents an overview of Piagets developmental theory, its scope and content. The film can serve either as an introduction to Piagets work or as a review of it. With David Elkind, Ph.D. This is a short clip from the film. 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion- Triple Nickles WWII Film

WWII archival film footage of the first African American Paratroopers/Smoke Jumpers - 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion "The Triple Nickles". Watch these guys in training, then see them jump right into a blazing forest fire to attack that blaze! Amazing and rare footage of very brave men doing their dangerous jobs extremely well. Note how they land in the trees on purpose - "hooking the trees" as they called it was a vital part of their technique which allowed them to rope down to the ground at their own pace rather than slamming directly into dangerously hard and uneven mountain terrain upon landing. The 555th PIB were absolute pioneers in the Airborne world on so many levels. Look them up today to learn more about them - they deserve far more historical recognition and appreciation than they have ever received. Their Veterans Association Web Site is a fantastic reference and it can be found online at the following web address: www.triplenickle.com PS - The Triple Nickles intentionally used the alternate spelling of the word " Nickels " as another way to further identify the uniqueness of their unit. When researching The Triple Nickles anywhere online, use both spellings as they are often interchanged in various sources.

Short and Sweet has teamed up with Getty Images to launch a film challenge with a twist. Getty Images approached producer Basil Stephens and Short and Sweet founder Julia Stephenson with the idea of setting up a film competition which would make use of images in Getty's Hulton Archive. Stephenson drew from her in-depth knowledge of the short film arena to suggest a selection of talented filmmakers. After picking out ten up-and-coming directors, she gave them the opportunity to pitch. Four of the filmmakers made it on to the shortlist and got the chance to realise their ideas. They were given three months to create their films. The challenges aim was to highlight the breadth and depth of content available at the Hulton Archive, which offers a unique resource to filmmakers and creatives alike. But rather than set a rigid brief, the challenge offered key words and phrases as prompters to guide the filmmakers creativity. Examples of these prompters included discover our past, images that shape our future, still & moving imagery, ordinary people, ordinary things and extraordinary people, extraordinary things.

Affluenza

A ground breaking film about consumerism, materialism, commercialism and the antidotes. AFFLUENZA is a ground breaking film that diagnoses a serious social disease - caused by consumerism, commercialism and rampant materialism - that is having a devastating impact on our families, communities, and the environment. We have more stuff, but less time, and our quality of life seems to be deteriorating. By using personal stories, expert commentary, hilarious old film clips, and "uncommercial" breaks to illuminate the nature and extent of the disease, AFFLUENZA has appealed to widely diverse audiences: from freshmen orientation programs to consumer credit counselling, and from religious congregations to marketing classes. With the help of historians and archival film, AFFLUENZA reveals the forces that have dramatically transformed us from a nation that prized thriftiness - with strong beliefs in "plain living and high thinking" - into the ultimate consumer society.

J.Krishnamurti-Documentary - 1of8 - The Challenge of Change

The Challenge of Change is the compelling story of a great religious teacher of the 20th century, from his childhood discovery in 1909 to his lifelong talks with large audiences in most parts of the world until his death in 1986. Through the Theosophical Society of which she was the President, Annie Besant, who had adopted him and his brother, proclaimed Krishnamurti to be the World Teacher who had been historically foretold and expected by the Society. Krishnamurti rejected any special status when he dissolved the Order of the Star that had been set up around him, declaring that "Truth is a Pathless Land", and denying that there could be any authority in religious matters. This remarkable story, told through archival film and photographs, is a valuable introduction to Krishnamurti's life and teaching. There are excerpts from his many talks, as well as an interview made for the film. He spoke not as a guru, saviour or master but as one who called for the awakening of intelligence in all human beings.

JBLenoir in Chicago - 1964 - original 16mm color

From the original 16mm footage with the original optical soundtrack shot in Chicago by Steve and Ronnog Seaberg and Peter Amft. One of the earliest films of a Chicago blues musician, especially in color, showing what J,B, looked like when he appeared on stahe and in clubs in either his gold, charteuse, black or zebra striped tuxes or tailcoats, his gold colored electric guiter, harmonica and mic holder and a long cord so that he could move around the club floor. All of this as opposed to the image promoters wanted him to have with an acoustic guitar and unasuminf clothes as seen in other film and video clips from this time. The idea was that he should appear as an unsophistacated folk-musican rather than the professional artist that he really was Some of this footage made by the Seabergs appears in Wim Wenders' film, The Soul of a Man, along with an interbiew with the Seabergs describing the bkues scene in Chicago at that time and their friendship with and admiration for JB Other clips on YouTube made from the Seabergs' original film and taken from The Soul of a Man have had a new soundtrack added by Wenders which include drums and vocal by Willie Dixon from another recording of the same songs and which were not present at the original filming.

Resurrecting the Timber Terror - Demo

World renowned aviation restoration company, Victoria Air Maintenance has rebuilt dozens of historic planes over the years but are deep into a project that will test their formidable engineering, mechanical and detective skills to the limit as they work to get The Mosquito, the fastest fighter, bomber and reconnaissance plane in World War II back into the air. Around the world, teams are racing to be the first to get a Mossie airborne. Resurrecting the Timber Terror is a character driven documentary that chronicles the obsessions, challenges and commitment of dedicated professionals as they work to restore Mosquito B35 CF-HML to her former glory. This one hour multi-platform, interactive documentary follows the process of bringing this magnificent military plane back into the air while reliving, through archival film, photographs and interviews with pilots, mechanics, navigators and enthusiasts, the fascinating history of this remarkable plane. What makes the Mosquito restoration even more difficult is that no original schematics remain. It is thus a race not only against time but against the fading memories of the brave men who flew it and the innovative engineers and designers who built it. Made almost entirely of wood, 1133 Mosquito planes rolled off the DeHavilland Canada Toronto production line to help win WW II and later play a central role in the Chinese Civil War. Following the war efforts, Mosquito's were brought home to map Canada's unknown and treacherous ...

Australian Atomic Confessions [Full Documentary]

Sacrificial Lambs on the High Alter of Science Australian servicemen and nomadic Aboriginals reveal the devastating effects of atomic weapons testing carried out in Australia by the British during the 1950s. For the first time, members of the Royal Australian Army, Air Force and Navy describe former top secret aspects of those tests. With the use of rare archival film and photographs, as well as eye witness accounts, Australian Atomic Confessions chronicles the hidden history and exposes previously hidden Governemnet cover-ups. The consequences of nuclear testing imposed on the Australian people and land are not just skeletons of the past. Sydneys' new nuclear reactor continues to pose a threat to the environment and civilians, and the problem of removing and disposing of the old nuclear reactor remains an unanswered question. Prominent Aboriginal Elders also warn that an imminent catastrophe may occur in Central Australia as a result of two uranium mines. Australian Atomic Confessions is a chilling expose of nuclear testing and its damaging legacy, one that continues to this day. Deportations to death camps - archival material

www.facebook.com www.ceepackaging.com twitter @ceepackaging www.facebook.com A collection of film showing deportations to death camps taken by Nazi cameramen. The first film shows what I believe to be a village in Galicia in which case the inhabitants would have ended up in Belzec. However they may be in the process of being taken to a ghetto. In another part of the film we see the Nazis collecting valuables from the condemned who meekly hand them over. Finally we can see the deportation of the Jewish population of Lodz. The station is recognisable and can be seen in my photographs on Radegast also published here. I think that this film is from August 1944 and so the people would have been taken to Auschwitz where nearly all of them perished. The soundtrack appears to have been added at a later date. The originals of these films are in the Film Archives in ul. Chelmska, Warsaw.

Sing Sing Sing - スウィングガールズ Suwingu Gāruzu

"Sing, Sing, Sing (With a Swing)" is a 1936 song, written by Louis Prima and first recorded by him with the New Orleans Gang and released in March 1936 as a 78 as Brunswick 7628 (with "It's Been So Long" as the B side). It is strongly identified with the big band and swing eras. It was covered by Fletcher Henderson and most famously Benny Goodman. Originally entitled "Sing Bing Sing", in reference to Bing Crosby, it was soon retitled for use in wider contexts. The song has since been covered by numerous artists. Swing Girls (スウィングガールズ Suwingu Gāruzu?) is a 2004 comedy film co-written and directed by the Japanese filmmaker Shinobu Yaguchi about the efforts of a group of high school girls to form a jazz band. Swing Girls is set in rural Yamagata prefecture, in northern Japan and the characters often use the local Yamagata-ben dialect for comic effect. The film ranked 8th at the Japanese box office in 2004, and won seven prizes at the 2005 Japanese Academy Awards, including 'Most Popular Film' and 'Newcomer of the Year' awards for Yūta Hiraoka and Juri Ueno. The cast includes Yūta Hiraoka (Takuo, the leader of the band), Juri Ueno (Tomoko), Shihori Kanjiya (Yoshie), Yuika Motokariya (Sekiguchi) and Yukari Toyashima (Naomi). The actors performed their own music for the film. This film was not particularly popular outside of Japan, but was released onto DVD in region 4 format after its release in Japan. Bobby Sanabria "La Clave - The Key" at Latin Music USA/PBS Press Tour

CLAVE - THE KEY: A RHYTHMIC JOURNEY FROM AFRICA TO THE NEW WORLD Multiple Grammy nominated drummer, percussionist, arranger, composer, bandleader Bobby Sanabria uses the 5-beat rhythm of the clave (the rhythmic pattern and unifying principle of Cuban son, rumba and contemporary salsa) as the "key" to unlock the roots of Afro-Cuban music and show its presence in the music of the present day United States. Against the on-going beat of the clave, Mr. Sanabria plays complex rhythms on various percussion instruments culminating on the drum set. While simultaneously speaking or singing, he demonstrates how the 5-beat clave, with its roots in West Africa journeyed to Cuba and the US and remains at the core of other musical styles such as funk, R & B, rock & roll, and hip hop. Mr. Sanabria will also address the history of the Afro-Cuban jazz continuum through archival film footage and demonstrate the impact that all Latin American music forms have had on US culture followed by a lively question answer session with the audience.

Resettlement [floating home]

During government sponsored resettlement programs in Newfoundland (late 50's throuh to the early 70's), many houses were either abandoned or floated and toed across stretches of open sea, from traditional coastal villages to newly populated communities. Resettlement [floating home] uses the image of the floating house as a metaphor for displacement and memory, a suspension between worlds — a place where a lonely spirit is compelled to appear.

The History of Coca-Cola - (1 of 10)

This program traces the story of the quintessential American soft drink Coca-Cola. The exact formula of the popular soda has always been a secret, ever since it was devised in the lab of a Georgia pharmacy. But, as the story shows, one ingredient was the South American plant coca. In early days, so-called soft drinks, such as Coca-Cola and 7-Up, contained ingredients which gave the consumer a "lift." This put them in competition with the lucrative alcohol industry. Through the influential liquor lobby's efforts, coca was placed on the list of narcotics, and the composition and history of Coca-Cola was changed forever. These and other interesting facts are presented in this informative documentary, along with archival films, photographs, artwork, and interviews with the Coca-Cola family.

The Aldo Leopold Foundation is working with US Forest Service filmmakers Steve Dunsky, Ann Dunsky and Dave Steinke to produce the hour-long Green Fire: The Life and Legacy of Aldo Leopold. Leopold biographer and conservation biologist Dr. Curt Meine will serve as the film's on-screen guide. Green Fire describes the formation of Leopold's idea, exploring how it changed one man and later permeated through all arenas of conservation. The film draws on Leopold's life and experiences to provide context and validity, then explores the deep impact of his thinking on conservation projects around the world today. The high-definition film will utilize photographs, correspondence, manuscripts and other archival documents from the voluminous Aldo Leopold Archives as well as historical film and contemporary full-color footage on location, including landscapes that influenced Leopold and that he in turn influenced.

Warsaw ghetto archival footage - Warszawskie getto - ווארשעווער געטא

SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE HISTORICAL ARCHIVE FOOTAGE Warsaw ghetto archival footage - Warszawskie getto - Warschauer Ghetto - Варшавское гетто - ווארשעווער געטא Film taken mainly by German sources of the Warsaw ghetto. The Warsaw Ghetto was established by the German Governor-General Hans Frank on October 16, 1940 and completely closed one month later. At this time, the population in the Ghetto was estimated to be 400000 people, about 30 percent of the population of Warsaw. However, the size of the Ghetto was about 2.4% of the size of Warsaw. You can see what it looks like today in other films I have posted here.

NASA's Alien Anomalies caught on film - A compilation of stunning UFO footage from NASA's archives

This compilation includes many of my favorite NASA UFO encounters/sightings that I have archived over the years. All of these examples (with the exception of the second-to-last one) were captured on film by NASA astronauts or Russian Cosmonauts over the past half-century - showing many amazing examples from different eras - Gemini, Apollo, Apollo/Soyuz Test Project, Skylab, STS, the ISS, plus a couple Russian-source additions from their unmanned Zond and Mir Space Station programs as well thrown in to round things out. The second last example is the only one in the compilation that features footage that was not taken in space and is not official-source (NASA or Soviet/Russian Space Agency). That clip shows an LTP (Lunar Transient Phenomenon) event captured through a camera connected to the eyepiece of a terrestrial-based telescope that luckily was being focused on the Moon at the time. In this case, the LTP manifests as an object transiting across the face of the lunar disc. Many thanks to amateur astronomer Alberto Mayer of Italy for doing a wonderful job of filming this stunning event (and for stacking the footage for us all to see). While the examples you will see here captured on film can all be "officially" classified as "unidentified" objects, that absolutely does NOT mean that NASA, the DoD, and certain elements within the scientific community worldwide are completely in the dark as to what these things you are seeing are. Make no mistake: The Powers That Be are ...
