Touring Buenos Aires. Argentina Travel Trip. November 2011

Buenos Aires: The tour began in the capital city of Buenos Aires. Beth and I arrived the day before the official start of the tour. We spent our first afternoon wandering along the river at Puerto Madero, taking in the atmosphere of this redeveloped area which has become an upscale area. On Sunday, Beth and I walked to down Florida Street and took in the sights and sounds as vendors set up their wares down the middle of the mall. Lunch was the official start of the tour, after which, we were given an overview of the city. Sole, our guide, then took us to some flea markets and the Jose Hernandez Museum. Metal Flower Sculpture in Buenos Aires (Argentina) - Travel Guide

Take a tour of Metal Flower Sculpture in Buenos Aires in Buenos Aires, Argentina - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. Near the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, Argentina is an array of sculptures and monuments surrounding a reflecting pool. Floralis Generica is the most prominent feature, sitting in the pool and blooming towards the sky each day. When the sun rises, the six petals open to greet the day; when the sun goes down at night, the flower closes around its four pistons. The hydraulic-powered steel and aluminum sculpture was given to the city by Eduardo Catalo in 2002. The structure is massive, weighing 18 tons, and takes approximately twenty minutes to open and close. Red and green lights wash over the closed flower most nights, creating a stunningly natural and ethereal atmosphere.

Buenos Aires (Argentina) Travel - Plaza de Mayo

Main downtown area of Buenos Aires that includes Casa Rosada among other attractions. Other Information: Attractions at Plaza de Mayo: Casa Rosada and Obelisk Plaza de Mayo has been the center of Argentina's history. It is the site where many of the country's largest demonstrations have taken place. Protests, during the economic unrest of 2001 took place here. Remember the movie Evita with Madonna? That is the balcony where the real Evita, or Eva Peron, would appear with her husband, Juan Peron. Behind me is the obelisk built where the Argentine flag was raised for the first time. This is one of the city's major icons. Today this is the spot where city festivities take place. The national football team comes here traditionally to celebrate its victories. Guess how long it took to build this thing. 50 years? 10 years? 5 years? No, it actually took a mere 4 weeks to put this thing together. Pretty remarkable, eh? This is the widest avenue in the entire world, six lanes each way for your driving pleasure. Named Nueve de Julio for the country's independence day which was July 9th, 1816. Due to its width, close to 150 meters, it takes close to two to three lights just to cross the avenue. If you cross this avenue just 12 times, you have already done a mile. "We know that it is the widest Avenue in the world, we carry it in our hearts." I am Kristina Renee, showing you Buenos Aires.

Learn about Argentine steak and why locals say it is the best in the world. Address 4691 Guatemala and Gurruchaga Buenos Aires In Argentina, the country with the highest per capita meat consumption in the world, you can expect to find a great steak. Good climate, open spaces and clean water are some of the reasons that Argentina has the best beef in the world. And parillas, or steakhouses, like this are not hard to find. "Why is Argentine meat the best meat in the world?" "It would be for the class of cow that we have, the countryside, the way it is raised. The most popular cuts are the "vacio," the "bife de chorizo," and the "lomo." "Can you tell us a little bit about the typical condiment of Argentina, the "chimi-churri?" "The chimi-churri sauce does not have a lot of spices, I make it by hand. It has ground up pepper, black pepper, parsley, oil and vinegar. The tourists love chimi-churri, they order a steak and cover it with it. The Argentines use it more with sausage." Nowhere else but Argentina will you find a steak this juicy and tender, and big. "This is "chorizo" (sausage) that is ground up beef and pork with spices. This is made with blood and meat, but very little meat." I am Gigi Sehr showing you Buenos Aires.

But what drives most visitors to Recoleta is the famous cemetery. The most visited tomb in Recoleta Cemetery is that of Evita Peron, the famous First Lady. Every day fresh flowers are placed at her grave. Only the rich and famous are buried here, in tombs worth more than most luxury apartments. The church, Our Lady of Pilar, dates back to the early days of Buenos Aries. Inside you can see examples of colonial religious art and there's even a museum of church relics. Plaza Francia is a great place to enjoy the view. "Oh it is a park with the green areas and the cafes and the good food and it is really nice restaurants here, and the church, it is nice to walk it." Around the Plaza there are great bars and restaurants to serve every taste. "It is a nice neighborhood because we have in the cemetery the greatest woman who ever lived, Evita. To beautify the neighborhood, they used left over paint from the ships and boats. This area is generally pretty active, attracting artists, musicians and, of course, outside visitors. "What is your name?" "Alfredo Luciano." "What do you like most about La Boca?" "I like the club, Boca Jrs. and the people who treat me well, and the river, and the Chinese neighborhood, are the things that I like a lot."
