Much has changed in documentary filmmaking since the American Museum of Natural History organized the first Margaret Mead Film Festival in 1977 as a celebration of the pioneering anthropologist and longtime Museum curator. But the one constant has been the Mead Festival's enduring distinction for bringing the public the best in innovative nonfiction films, a legacy that will be celebrated at this year's 35th-anniversary program held from Thursday, November 10, through Sunday, November 13. "Since I first began working in film, the Mead Festival had a legendary place among film festivals," says Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky, who is leading the jury selection for this year's Margaret Mead Filmmaker Award. "The films are always amazing." The festival will screen 31 outstanding films, including 11 US premieres, culled from more than 1000 international and domestic submissions, as well as a special presentation of space and sci-fi films by Curator Michael Shara, in anticipation of the Museum's upcoming exhibition Beyond Planet Earth: The Future of Space Exploration. Here it is, my tribute to the films of Darren Aronofsky. This video covers Aronofsky's five feature length films: Pi, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain, The Wrestler and Black Swan. When I finished my last video 'Edgar Wright - The Works' I wanted to try and tackle a director that was almost entirely different in terms of style. Whereas my Edgar Wright tributes were much more upbeat, with Aronofsky I wanted to truly capture his style. My goal with this edit was to make it as dark and paranoid as one of his films. This is what I came up with! Expect more director tributes to come over the next few months! Hey there Everyone, I'm Chelsea Cannell and you're watching Clevver Movies! Darren Arronofsky has decided to walk away from directing Wolverine because he says he doesn't want to be away from his family for that long. The film which will be set in Japan will reportedly take a year to film and Darren, who has a son with his ex-flame Rachel Weisz, feels that the production would take him away for too long. He admitted that the decision was a hard one since he was really looking forward to working with Hugh Jackman, and felt the script was fantastic, but ultimately it just wasn't something he felt he could do. The screenplay written by Christopher McQuarrie supposedly has a Samurai Subplot and is rumored to already have a 2012 release date. However, Fox has not revealed whether or not the loss of their director will in fact push back its theatrical release. Kinda a bummer since a lot of people felt Arronofsky was the right guy to bring this story to life, but now that's he's opted out- who do you think should get the job?
