7-part acapella arrangement. Spring show 2003. To those who wonder where the 8th member is, go see the video "UC Men's Octet- 2003 opening video". Note: To alleviate any confusion, Rockapella never did this arrangement. Some time in the late 90's, the Octet's recording of this song was mislabeled online as a Rockapella song. This acapella arrangement has been passed along within the group from year to year since the 80's. The original arranger, it is believed, was a member of another Berkeley group in the mid-80's, and the Octet adopted the tune a couple years later.

"Summertime" is a track from the album "Porgy and Bess" by jazz trumpet musician Miles Davis, released in 1958 on Columbia Records. The album features arrangements by Davis and collaborator Gil Evans from George Gershwin's opera Porgy and Bess. The album was recorded in four sessions on July 22, July 29, August 4 and August 18 in 1958 at Columbia's 30th Street Studio in New York City. It is the second collaboration between Davis and Evans and has garnered much critical acclaim since its release, being acknowledged by music critics as the best of their collaborations. For many jazz critics, Porgy and Bess is regarded as historic. In 1958, Davis was one of many jazz musicians growing dissatisfied with bebop, seeing its increasingly complex chord changes as hindering creativity. Five years earlier, in 1953, pianist George Russell published his Lydian Chromatic Concept of Tonal Organization, which offered an alternative to the practice of improvisation based on chords. Abandoning the traditional major and minor key relationships of Western music, Russell developed a new formulation using scales or a series of scales for improvisations. Schindler's List Violin Theme by Ann Fontanella
This is the theme from Schindler's List, the 1993 movie about the Holocaust. Erick Friedman, my violin teacher and mentor, had a magnet on his filing cabinet that read "Holocaust: Never Again". He lost several family members. The determination of that motto has stayed with me. I didn't want the mournful tone of this piece to become self-pity or maudlin, but to maintain the clarity of the statement "we will never let this happen again". I modified the theme and bowings to create a sense of growing focused emotional intensity as the song progresses. The final quarter is one of sorrow and I modified the final note to a fading long harmonic to emphasize this sense of loss.
Vector to the Heavens (Xion's Final Battle) - Piano Arrangement
**PLEASE READ** I was getting really annoyed by answering the same questions over and over again. So here's a quick FAQ: 1) This is a solo arrangement. You don't need 4 hands or 2 people or whatever. 2) I am fully aware of the overlapping notes in some parts, but with the right timing, they are perfectly playable. You are also free to move any hand up or down an octave as you please. 3) As for the bass notes in 1:35, they are prolonged because you're holding down the SUSTAIN PEDAL. So yes, it is possible to play the chords after you press the octaves. 4) It is played in the correct key, just compare with other videos if you are unsure of this. 5) I know some people make 50% speed videos and whatnot, but I am not doing this. They just take up space. If you want to learn the piece, download the midi and the sheet music. Also, Synthesia is available for free, so you can slow it down to any speed you want with the midi I provide! Thanks for checking out my video and reading this.
