The original a-side version from 1975 by the band (Alan Merrill and) the Arrows. The group were produced by British legend Mickie Most, and the tune was written by Arrows Alan Merrill and Jake Hooker. The song was later covered by Joan Jett, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus and many more. Lead vocals & bass guitar by Alan Merrill, guitar & backing vocals by Jake Hooker, and drums and backing vocals by Paul Varley. The Arrows released both an a-side version and a b-side version of this particular song. Having their own TV series, the band recorded many versions of their songs for performance on the show, in accordance with musician's union rules at the time. The video was made in three locations. The park is Berkeley Square, London England, W1, the street scenes are on Charles Street, same area. The performance was filmed on Quay Street in Manchester England, at the Granada/ITV studios. This clip aired on Granada/ITV in 1976, produced by Muriel Young and directed by Peter Walker. This version is available on The Arrows "Tawny Tracks" rarities album. The Reds' performance over NYC was their first, and was part of a larger North American goodwill tour, which included airshows in Quebec City, Langley AFB, and Rhode Island, and the NYC performance brought mainly in part by ICAP, which is the world's premier voice and electronic interdealer broker, delivering specialist intermediary broking services to trading professionals in the wholesale financial markets. Despite the fact that it was a private show for the company (and that ICAP had a private party on South Beach, as noted by the large tent you saw in the beginning of the video), it was indeed open to the public to view from the beach or boardwalk. You can see one of my friends, who is a photographer out of the Perth Amboy NJ area, in some of the shots, as he shot from one of the jetties. Following their performance over Staten Island, the Reds were joined by another Red Arrow, for a couple flybys of the Statue of Liberty as part of a special photo shoot. Arrows in their last ever appearance doing their song "Love Rider," a tune recorded in 1976 at Granada's Quay Street Studio in Manchester England that didn't get released until 2005 with EMI's "A's B's and Rarities." The band split up shortly after this Christmas appearance. Because of reruns the band were on air in 1977 even though they had gone separate ways. Following up, the lead singer Alan Merrill formed the Island Records band Runner, drummer Paul Varley the Charisma Records band Darling, guitarist Terry Taylor founded the Rhthym Kings band with Bill Wyman, and guitarist Jake Hooker became his wife Lorna Luft's manager.
