ArtistsNetwork.TV Interview with George Allen Durkee

When George began painting in 1965, there were no art schools nearby, so he took a correspondence course and a night job—studying by day and working at night. Once the course was complete he quit his night job, and with twelve days of vacation pay in his pocket, he became a full-time painter. For the next few years, he painted from town to town and traded art for dollars. Within six months, his paintings hung in a gallery between the works of Picasso and Miro. After living and painting in San Francisco for nearly twenty years, George moved to the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Northern California. Now, George joins ArtistsNetwork.TV for two video workshops: Color Crash Course with George Allen Durkee and Expressive Oil Painting with George Allen Durkee: A Basic Approach (available Oct/Nov 2010 through www.ArtistsNetwork.tv and www.NorthLightShop.com). In this interview, George talks with ArtistsNetwork.TV's, Jennifer Lepore, about his passion for painting. You can view his paintings at gadurkee.com, or at The Art Gallery in Murphys, California, owned and operated by George and his wife.

The Watercolorist Essential Notebook Landscapes with Gordon Mackenzie

From ArtistsNetwork.TV: Gordon MacKenzie demonstrates in three stunning projects just what can be achieved in a landscape painting. With the use of simple, but extremely effective techniques Gordon breaks through new boundaries and creates suggestive, mood-filled paintings that sparkle with life. Gordon enjoys using a loose approach to his painting; he uses large wash brushes where possible and encourages you to fly where you might usually slow down for detail. Theres something particularly fresh and exciting about Gordons approach to landscapes, he uses innovative techniques such as modifying a brush to create what he calls a scrub brush used for lifting paint from the page to create a whole range of lighting effects. He also uses Popsicle sticks, paper towels, slices of sponge and much more to add a new dimension to his work. This is an essential guide to painting landscapes; the techniques you will learn will open doors to new painting possibilities, and Gordons friendly and easy-to-follow instruction you are sure to succeed.
