Arvo Pärt - Fratres

Fratres, for violin, string orchestra and percussion (1977, 1992) Gil Shaham, violin Roger Carlsson, percussion Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra Neeme Järvi Fratres is a composition by the Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, existing in versions for a wide variety of instrumentations and exemplifying Pärt's Tintinnabuli style of composition. Each version has a duration of about 7 to 12 minutes. It exists perhaps most prominently in its versions for violin, string orchestra, and percussion and for violin and piano. Most other versions are very similar to these two: for instance, the versions for viola and piano and cello and piano are almost exactly the same as the former, whereas the version for string quartet is more similar to the latter. The first version for string quintet and wind quintet was written in 1977. Further versions were written over the years up to about 1992. Fratres for strings and percussion Fratres for violin, strings and percussion Fratres for string quartet Fratres for cello and piano Fratres for eight cellos Fratres for wind octet and percussion Structurally, Fratres consists of a set of nine chord sequences, separated by a recurring percussion motif. The chord sequences themselves follow a clear pattern, and while the progressing chords explore a rich harmonic space, they nevertheless appear to have been generated by means of a simple mathematical formula.

Truelly amazing the way that Robles has adapted this incredible dance to the beautiful Part`s music. Contemporany dance.. if you don´t like it take a look at this anyway because it´s one of the masterpieces of the new ballet, at least the one of the last 10 years. It´s only the presentation of the play

Arvo Pärt - Tabula Rasa, I

Tabula rasa, concerto for 2 violins (or violin & viola), prepared piano & string orchestra (1977) I. Ludus: Con moto II. Silentium: Senza moto Adele Anthony, violin Gil Shaham, violin Erik Risberg, prepared piano Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra Neeme Järvi Arvo Pärt composed Tabula Rasa in 1977, shortly after emerging from his self-imposed period of intense study and reflection to demonstrate what would become his characteristic musical technique: the so-called tintinnabuli method. The work is thus a prime example of the technique and demonstrates how, even in its early stages, Pärt's new and innovative musical language was connected indelibly with his sense of musical process and form. One not only hears the tintinnabula system working itself out in this piece, but also gets a clear sense of the aesthetic and spiritual underpinnings of the method and its implications for large-scale musical structure. The work calls for two violin soloists supported by an ensemble of orchestral strings and an obbligato prepared piano. These three textural layers -- soloists, prepared piano, and orchestra -- assume distinct roles within the musical process at the heart of the piece. Stated simply, the tintinnabuli method as practiced by Pärt in this and numerous other works combines simple, usually stepwise diatonic melodies with ever-present interactions of tones from the tonic, or home, chord. There is thus both a strong sense of harmonic stability as well as a continually shifting <b>...</b>

Arvo Part - Da Pacem Domine (Lamentate)

Arvo Part is an Estonian composer born in 1935. He's considered a classical post-modern composer, and he explores the minimalism and the hypnotic senses that the voice con make. He's the creator of Tintinnabuli - simple style that was influenced by the composer's mystical experiences with chant music. Musically, Pärt's tintinnabular music is characterized by two types of voices, the first of which (dubbed the "tintinnabular voice") arpeggiates the tonic triad, and the second of which moves diatonically in stepwise motion. The paintings are from the french surrealist painter Yves Tanguy (1900-1955). Yves Tanguy's paintings have a unique, immediately recognizable style of nonrepresentational surrealism. They show vast, abstract landscapes, mostly in a tightly limited palette of colors, only occasionally showing flashes of contrasting color accents. Typically, these alien landscapes are populated with various abstract shapes, sometimes angular and sharp as shards of glass, sometimes with an intriguingly organic look to them, like giant amoebae suddenly turned to stone.

Composed in 1990, and revised in 1991, for SATB Choir or soloists with Organ accompaniment. The video's final stained glass window is from Saint Paul's Cathedral in St. Paul, Minnesota; the South Rose Window located south in line with Selby Avenue, the work of Charles J. Connick. The theme is from the Beatitudes spoken by jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. Christ in the center is surrounded by eight saints of the new world. Clockwise from upper right; Rose of Lima (suffering), Toribio of Mogrovejo (peacemaking), Kateri Tekawitha (purity of heart), Francis Solano (mercy), Francis Xavier Cabrini (hunger and thirst for justice), Peter Claver (mourning), Rose Philippine Duchesne (meekness), and Martin de Porres (poverty of spirit).

Arvo Pärt - Cantus In Memory Of Benjamin Britten [HQ]

Arvo Pärt - Cantus In Memory Of Benjamin Britten Conductor - Dennis Russell Davies Orchestra - Staatsorchester Stuttgart Taken from the album, Tabula Rasa (ECM New Series 1984) | BREATHTAKING | Arvo Pärt... Arvo Pärt (born 11 September 1935; Estonian pronunciation: [rvo pært]) is an Estonian Classical composer and one of the most prominent living composers of sacred music. Since the late 1970's, Pärt has worked in a Minimalist style that employs a self-made compositional technique called tintinnabuli. His music also finds its inspiration and influence from Gregorian Chant. Pärt was born in Paide, Järva County, Estonia. A prolonged struggle with Soviet officials led him to emigrate with his wife and their two sons in 1980. He lived first in Vienna, Austria, where he took Austrian citizenship, and then re-located to Berlin, Germany. He returned to Estonia around the turn of the 21st century and now lives in Tallinn. Für Alina, by Arvo Pärt

Haskell Small, piano. Dedicated to a family friends daughter, Für Alina is written in the composers signature tintinnabuli style. It is an overtly simple piece in b minor, yet it exudes a deeply mystic resonance by means of its very slow, ultra quiet singing line on top of a suspended drone in the bass.

Joseph Cipolla's BREATHLESS to Arvo Pärt . Configuration Dance Theatre Co-Founder Artistic Director

CONFIGURATION DANCE THEATRE has been described by Dance Magazine as "a living art gallery." The New York Times reported, "the exciting contemporary thrust to their repertory and the dancers' innate classicism was the first great pleasure." ARTVOICE said, "As their name implies, their emphasis widens the scope of dance and dramatic, a certain 'noir-ness,' they lay bare emotions, startle the senses, and make one think." CDT's choreographic leadership and excellence under Joseph Cipolla, co-Founder and Artistic Director, and Resident Choreographer, Michael Shannon, has been called the "Dream Team" by The Buffalo News, joined in 2007 by the quintessential American Ballet Theatre star, Susan Jaffe, as Principal Guest Choreographer. The Artists of Configuration Dance Theatre have been honored with the ARTVOICE Best Dance Company Award in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Shannon received a YAGP Outstanding Choreographers Award in 2008, and in 2006, St. Josephs Collegiate Institute, Joseph Cipolla's Alma Mater, inducted him into the Fine Arts Wall of Honor. Cipolla and Shannon began working together as stars for Birmingham Royal Ballet (Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet) in England for Director David Bintley under the patronage of Queen Elizabeth II, the Prince of Wales, and Lady Sarah Chatto. Shannon and Jaffe were brought together as partners by Kirov and ABT legend, Elena Tchernichova, Artistic Director of the Vienna State Opera Ballet, to star with Vladimir Malakov, Katherine Healy, Kevin <b>...</b>
