linkupvideos.com - Daegu -- one of Korea's largest cities -- is hosting the 2011 IAAF World Championships from August 27th to September 4th. This will be the 13th IAAF World Championships and only the 4th time it's been hosted outside of Europe -- the other three times were in Japan (1991, 2007) and Canada (2001). The IAAF is the International Association of Athletics Federations and it hosts the IAAF World Championships bi-annually (although they started off in 1983 hosting them every four years) on odd years so not to compete with the Olympics. This year the event will be held at Daegu Stadium, with more than 4000 athletes from over 212 countries worldwide participating. But don't worry, Daegu isn't a stranger large international sporting event as it was one of the host cities for the 2002 World Cup (that's soccer's world championship for you non-sporty types). They've been preparing for this for years (since 2005 I believe) so I'm sure it will be great! It will be a fabulous celebration of sport (and culture) and if you are lucky enough to be in Korea and have tickets, enjoy! I just wish I was going to be there. I can imagine that the Welcome Night on August 26th, the Opening Ceremony on August 27th and the Closing Ceremony on September 4th will be amazing! I wonder who will be performing?
