www.learningdslrvideo.com I have always been a sucker for really well done astro timelapse from people like Tom Lowe, TSO Photography and Randy Halverson. This past weekend I drove up into the mountains for a camping weekend with my oldest daughter. Every so often my wife and I like to split up our girls so we can get some one on one time with each girl. I knew we would get a chance to talk and tell ghost stories around the campfire. My photography goal for this trip was to try my first time lapse of the stars, I had ideas of grandeur of quality equal to Tom Lowe and others, and I was even more excited to try after I watched Tom Guilmette's awesome BTS video about Timefest. When I packed up the car in the morning there was not a cloud in the sky, however as we drove up to RMNP the clouds started forming. The previous weekend with my other daughter I got rain out at night and didn't want a repeat performance from Mother nature. By the time we setup up camp it started to drizzle. It rained on our hike but after that the clouds started to break up giving me some hope that we would have a clear night sky. Long's Peak The object of the timelapse was Long's Peak. Years ago I climbed this 14256' mountain with a friend in what turned out to be the nasty night camping ever, instead of starting out at 2am to start the hike with a day pack and head lamp on, my friend and I decided to take heavy packs in the afternoon and camp in the boulder field just below the sharp cliffs you see <b>...</b>

A compilation of my best astrophotos taken from 2003 to today, hope you enjoy. Most pictures taken with a modified Canon 350D camera and several telescopes, planet images taken with Philips Tou Cam web cam. All images were taken in Atalaia near Lisbon/Portugal or Reguengos de monsaraz in Alentejo/Portugal.

Pictures captured with a Panasonic Lumix dmc-f45 through the 20mm eyepiece of a Bresser Skylux NG 70mm/700mm refractor telescope, in the dark clear skies of southern Greece. The pictures appear even more sharp and detailed when watching through the eyepiece with just your eyes. Note that this is mostly a begginers telescope, so what you can see with it is mainly common nightsky objects like the moon, jupiter, saturn, the orion nebulae, the andromeda galaxy, various binary star systems like Ursa Major's Mizar, large open clusters like the Pleiades etc. A very good choice for those seeking the thrill of beginners backyard astronomy!

I thought it was about time to update my Chrissyos Astrophotography video with my new images. These images were taken between May 2007 and now (when the video was uploaded). It is mostly solar system related stuff. There is in order the Sun, Venus, the International Space Station, the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. In each section the images are displayed from the newest to the oldest. There are a number of different equipment combinations Ive used for these images though all were taken with a 10 Newtonian telescope. All of the images were taken using an EQ6 tracking mount except for the ISS images which used a Dobsonian mount. For the images of the Sun a solar filter was used. The greyscale images were taken using a DMK21AU04.AS while the colour images were taken using a Panasonic video camera.
