1996 Olympic Women's 4 x 400m Relay

(www.tandfunlimited.com/1996.html) One of the great women's relay races. The USA was able to move to the lead on the penultimate leg by Kim Graham and Jearl Miles was able to hold the lead on the anchor leg. Miles was tested to the end by Falilat Ogunkoya who ran a great anchor for Nigeria, with a tremendous closing sprint also from Grit Breuer of Germany who almost came clear of the field in the closing stretches. 1. Women's and Men's 100m Finals from the 1993 World Championships

www.tandfunlimited.com/1993.html Up first is the women's 100m final with the unbelievably close finish that ultimately has Gail Devers as the victor. The inspirational American was declared the narrow champion in front of Merlene Ottey. The next race featured is the men's 100m final where Linford Christie sets the European record with his gold medal performance finishing in front of the three Americans (Cason, Mitchell, and Lewis). Enjoy both of these great races!

Men's 100m Final 2007 IAAF World Championships

www.tandfunlimited.com/2007.html The men's final from Osaka, Japan. Tyson Gay overhauls the competition in the last 50m separating from Asafa Powell and Derrick Atkins as he nearly eclipses his PR with a 9.85 win. 2007 was a great year for USA as Gay completed the double with his 200m victory and Bernard Lagat pulled off his own double with 1500m, and 5000m golds. Enjoy the race!

World's Highest Pole Vault! Sergey Bubka wins gold at the 1993 World Champs.

Men's pole vault competition from the 1993 Athletics World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. 3 men clear 5.90m with Sergey Bubka winning the competition with a 6.00m clearance on his first attempt. His jump at 5.90 was quite possibly the highest jump in the history of the pole vault. Bubka's hip height was amazingly clear, and it would have simply become a question of depth and bar placement as to whether he would have cleared 6.20m+. After clearing 6.00m he moved the bar to 6.14m for a new world record and had 3 decent attempts at this height (one shown on this clip). It was an amazing competition with some great jumps. Enjoy the footage!

1984 Olympic Games Men's 400m SF (Bert Cameron's amazing run)

www.tandfunlimited.com/1984.html This is just a great moment in track and field history with Bert Cameron running through pain to finish the semi-final race. He nearly stopped running at around the 130m mark only to re-accelerate and finish in the all important 4th place to qualify for the finals. Unfortunately he was unable to compete in the final, but this race remains extremely impressive. Cameron has gone on to be one of the more influential people in Jamaican athletics and a huge role model for so many Caribbean athletes! Enjoy the action!

Nike Commercial - Quincy Watt Blows a Shoe

Men's 400m Final from the 1993 IAAF Athletics World Championship. Michael Johnson wins the race over world record holder Butch Reynolds and Olympic champion Quincy Watts (4th). The race featured 3 Americans and 3 Kenyans in the final and was made memorable by Quincy Watts' shoe falling apart on the final turn into the homestretch. At that point, he was struggling to maintain contact with Reynolds and Samson Kitur (KEN), but his shoes did him no favors. This probably could have happened to any shoe company, but was not Nike's best day. Enjoy either way!! www.tandfunlimited.com/1993.html

1988 Olympics Men's 100m Final

Ben Johnson vs Carl Lewis at the Seoul Olympics. Great start by Johnson as he completely destroys the field for the first 80m enroute to a new world record. The gold and record were later stripped as he controversially tested positive for steroids. Both Johnson and his coach Charlie Francis denied his use of the steroids in question. Francis went on to chronicle Johnson's steroid use and cycles, but vehemenently denied ever using Stanozolol. As ironic as it sounds, pleading innocent to using the drug that you tested positive for, but declaring the use of many other banned substances was the defense used. Either way, both athletes had many allegations thrown at them through the years and it made for an interesting race as both Linford Christie and Calvin Smith also broke 10 seconds.

Michael Johnson Pre-1996 Olympics

This is a collection of races that Michael Johnson competed in during the 1996 outdoor season. The first two races are the US Olympic Trial finals for the 200m and 400m. Johnson narrowly missing the world record in the quarter and breaks Mennea's world record in the 200m that stood for 17 years. The next races were great foreshadowing for the upcoming Olympic Games to be held in Atlanta. In these races, Johnson, Ato Boldon, Roger Black, and the forever young Frankie Fredericks put down some incredible times. Helping to serve as some motivation I am sure, Fredericks actually bested the new record holder in the 200m in a photofinish! Hopefully you enjoy the historic footage!

Bob Beamon vs Mike Powell Long Jump World Records!

This is a side by side comparison of the world record jumps from Bob Beamon and Mike Powell. They footage is from different camera angles, but it is cool to see the difference between the two jumps. Namely, the short-long takeoff from Beamon and the long-short penultimate from Powell. Beamon's high jumpesque approach creates superior height, but a more pronounced loss of speed and may have contributed to his lack of any other 28' jumps in his life, whereas Powell's approach generates more speed at takeoff but sacrifices height. Anyway, an interesting look at the past two world records in the men's long jump that have survived a combined 42 years! The footage is completed with the final three jumps for Carl Lewis and Mike Powell at the 1991 world champs. Enjoy!

World's Farthest Noodle Throw! Watch Jan Zelezny Throwing an Actual Noodle Over 275 Feet (85m+)!

No special effects here, just simply an unbelievably talented man who was starting to grow tired of beating people with a real javelin and decided to try throwing other implements farther. He wanted a slightly more difficult challenge and decided upon a wet noodle as the most obvious choice. The other competitors were rejoicing as they assumed that they would have no problems beating the world record holder. Tom Pukstys, Steve Backley, Kimmo Kinnunen, Mick Hill and others thought the race was on to claim the world title. Little did they know just how far a noodle can travel into the nighttime sky! 1988 Olympic Women's Relays

www.tandfunlimited.com/1988.html Women's 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays are both included in this clip. The 4 x 100m was won by the United States in dramatic fashion after two poor exchanges in the 2nd and 3rd zone. Evelyn Ashford was able to overtake the Soviets and East Germans, with her arch rival Marlies Gohr running anchor for the the Germans. All in all it was a great race with some of the best sprinters of all time on the track together. In the 4 x 400m both the Soviets and Americans broke the previous world record in this dramatic race! USA got off to a nice lead with Denean Howard running a nice lead leg, but Olga Nazarova ran a stunning 47.9 2nd leg to give USSR a commanding lead. Individual 400m Olympic champion Valerie Brisco stormed back to close the gap with a 48.7 3rd leg for the US, but Flo Jo was unable to complete the comeback as Olga Bryzgina stamped victory wither her 47.8 anchor. A truly magnificent race with some spectacular running from both teams. In a distant third place was the East German contingent running well under 3:20.

42.9 400m Michael Johnson! 1993 World Championship Relays (Both Men & Women)

42.9 400 SPLIT FOR MICHAEL JOHNSON, THE FASTEST 400 EVER RECORDED! The 4 x 400m Relays at the 1993 Athletics World Championships hosted in Stuttgart Germany were both won by Team USA in two of the fastest times ever. On the women's side Gwen Torrence led off the American team with a sub 50 second clocking. Up next was Maicel Malone-Wallace and her sub 50 second split. She handed off to silver medalist Natasha Kaiser-Brown (not Kaiser Sose as Chris Berman would call her!), who promptly ran a low 49 point leg. On anchor was 1993 400m world champion Jearl Miles (pre Miles-Clark days). Miles blasted a 48.8 split to bring the team home in 3:16.71. On the men's side Andrew Vallmon ran sub 45 from the blocks before handing off to 1992 Olympic gold medalist Quincy Watts. Watts ran low 44 before passing to world record holder Butch Reynolds. Reynolds ran a very impressive 43.2, but would not even run the fastest split of the day as he exchanged the baton to Michael Johnson. Johnson proceeded to light up the track with an amazing 42.9 solo split. The Americans demolished the field to set the still standing world record of 2:54.29. This is still the most amazing team ever put together with all four men running sub 45 for the first time in history.
