Mickey Newbury's Final Performance, Part 1

I am so very proud to say Mickey Newbury was my friend. Shortly before his death in 2002, Mick invited me up to his home in Oregon for his final gathering of friends. These four songs are his final public performance. He wasn't at his best...but it's still PURE Newbury.

More Monkey Business

The monkeys on Monkey Mountain live in very close family units...very human behavour. I've climbed the mountain to their homes and have gotten closer than any other people. They know me well now and allow my camera and I to intrude in their group rituals. They're not picking for fleas in this video. They are actually harvesting the salt from their fur. In the Summer, the heat and humidity can be overwhelming. Imagine the monkeys with those built in fur coats. That salt keeps them healthy. It's an amazing thing to watch.

JJ White - The Sweetest Love

Beginning back in the early 90's, I had the great pleasure of working with two of the finest songwriter/performers I've ever seen...two remarkable sisters, Jayne and Janice White...JJ WHITE. Hailing from Northern California, they traveled to Nashville and recorded for Curb Records. I met them at a gig up in Oregon and it was love at first sight...and sound for me. I filmed quite a few of their gigs and we became friends. In 2002, we lost Jayne to cancer. It left a hole in my heart the size of Texas. This is a clip from sometime around 95 or 96. These clips are some of my favorite videos ever.

Magical Monkey Tour

Monkey Mountain in Henan, China is truly a magical place. It is without a doubt my favorite spot in China. My son, Chris and I have visited the monkeys there many times and I've shot a lot of video there. They know us now by sight and welcome our arrival. It could have something to do with the goodies we bring them...fresh fruit, fruit juices, peanuts and peanutbutter.

Townes Van Zandt used to play this song in his live-set, and it was always a pleasure. You may think about the Boss what you want, to me this one's a hell of a song, and I think Townes recognized that as well.
