The Uzebox is a homebrew game console based on an Atmel AVR microcontroller. The design goal was to be simple to assemble for any hobbyist and have great sound and graphics with absolute minimum hardware: an AtMega644 microcontroller, an AD725 RGB-to-NTSC converter...and a bunch of resistors! You get 256 simultaneous colors, 240x224 (40x28 tiles) graphics, a 4 channels sound engine with MIDI driver, NES joysticks ports and a MIDI IN input to compose your own songs straight on the console. The kernel is fully interrupt driven to generates video sync, mix music, read joypads, etc. so games can be written in plain C, no insane cycle counting required :D ! Considering this is an 8-bit general purpose microcontroller with only 4K of RAM and 64k of ROM (and no external RAM or frame buffer), it was quite a challenge to cram all that stuff in there. The site has the schematic and all code is open source. The hardware well...is open hardware! Have a look at the forums for updates (fully assembled Uzebox soon available in well know web shops!). This tutorial introduces the AVR Dragon. It is a device that allows us to program and debug AVR ATmega Microcontrollers. I show how to setup and use the AVR Dragon, soldering a 40 pin ZIF socket to the board and show how to connect it to AVR Studio 5 beta 2. I write a sample application and program it on an ATmega328.

A Small setup to demonstrate the low power and low voltage operation of AVR Microcontroller, powered by a fruit cell, made of copper and zinc electrodes and 2 lemons only. Tiny13V was used for demonstration with an internal RC oscillator at 128KHz with a divide by 8 fuse setting. LED connected to Pin 2 of the Tiny Micro with a series resistance of 4.7KOhm. This video demonstrates an AVR (ATmega324p) microcontroller based project which can emulate the data protocol of a playstation controller, and interpret input from other devices so they can also be used with a playstation. The data can also be rearranged in software, allowing many possibilities for customising or improving how games are played. The prototype board currently has connections for a Wii "nunchuck", a sega saturn controller, two NES controllers, a standard playstation controller, and serial input/output. A 20x2 character LCD displays the current configuration mode, red/green LEDs are used to show communication status with the host device and a blue LED flashes when the host sends a command to actuate the controllers vibration motors. The device works directly with the playstation and playstation2, as well as xbox or pc with a proper adapter like the one shown in the video. more info here: nfggames.com
