How to improve your AXN Floater RC Plane for $1
The AXN Clouds Fly Floater RC plane already has pretty impressive performance but if you want some rather astonishing vertical, try swapping the standard 5x5 prop for a 6x5 one. I don't recommend doing this if you're using the stock speed controller but as I've said in a previous video, the HobbyKing 30A controller is a much better choice for this plane anyway and will handle the extra power a 6x5 prop draws with ease. This AXN has a 2200 3S 20C battery in it.

AXN Floater-Jet first flight
this is first flight of the AXN Floater-Jet from hobbycity.com. it is an arf model, it comes with servos and motor pre-installed. i was using ZIPPY Flightmax 1800mAh 3S1P 20C battery which fits and balances perfectly. weather condition was harsh, strong gusty winds and subzero (-5 c) temperature. my hands really hurts afterward. landing were a bit steep because plane go overshoot and i didn't wanted to be drown in the snow while getting her back. this part can be done better ;) plane itself is very satisfying, it surely have some small flaws (one of them is flimsy wing attachment system, i will mount a pair of neodymium magnets here to strenghten lock a bit), but overall it is a great flyer nonetheless. it can be flown well even by novices because of self-correcting attitude, strong epo foam and responsive and smooth control.

The AXN Clouds Fly Floater is still my favorite all-round RC plane, capable of handling the strongest winds yet also able to soar with the hawks in our spring thermals. This time I took the opportunity to test out my HD keychain camera after reflashing it to remove the time/datestamp. What you see in this video are onboard shots from the AXN (with a 6x5 prop) doing near-vertical climbs and dives. The last pull-out was fairly low and involved lots of G's -- but the AXN wasn't fazed. Sorry if you find this video boring -- but it was fun to make ;-)

This is Brent's AXN Floater with a 3500KV motor pulling 505W. Yes, it's fast but it's also really, really noisy -- which kind of indicates that perhaps a better prop would be a good idea. If your AXN is faster, post a video response.

AXN Floater Jet foiled takeoff - Flat battery
One of those flights.... Belly-glide take-off fails into a cartwheel. Second attempt barely works.. Ample time to study the botanics on the airstrip! I seem a little low on power. Follows a flight with a little thermal, a lot of hot-dogging. And then the motor dies on me. Time to land NOW :-) So I goofed: Instead of a fresh pack I had inserted a half depleted pack in the plane.

We decided to hold an impromptu spot-landing contest and you can guess what happened. RC planes were crashing all over the place, as the usual offenders did their best to try and nail the spot. It's a very good thing the AXN Clouds Fly Floater is one tough model. Another video from the SWMAC in Tokoroa, New Zealand for our hundreds of virtual members world-wide.

My AXN Floater RC plane setup.
People have been asking my about my AXN Coulds Fly Floater RC plane and how I've set it up so here's a video showing you the details. Note that I prefer to buy the ARF version with just the airframe and motor, then fit some HXT900 or HobbyKing 10g Orange servos and a 25A ESC that has at least a 3A BEC in it. If you buy the version with the servos already installed and the 20/25A ESC then you may encounter problems with the BEC not being able to provide enough current to drive all the servos if you really turn up the throws and start throwing the model around. You should also use a 2200mAH 3S battery of 15-20C for best balance and longest flight-times.

Barry's AXN RC plane has a mid-air explosion
The ESC in Barry's AXN Floater exploded in mid-air and sent the model spiraling into the ground from a great height. As is always the case when a member crashes a model at the SWMAC, sympathy was in short supply but the smart-assed wisecracks were plentiful. No worries, it's now all glued up and a new ESC will have it back in the air in no-time. These AXN's sure are tough. After spiraling in from about 300 feet, it took just 5 minutes with the hot-glue gun to repair the airframe.

It was a wonderfully warm and sunny day so I spent some time just cruising around with the AXN at knee-to-hip high altitude -- although I did chase Brent's 55cc SBach for a while and came very close to a mid-air. If you're eager for my bareback FPV series then this is what bareback flying should look like. Come the next fine weekend and I'll be filming that system in operation and posting the videos to my RCModelReviews channel. In the meantime, enjoy a closer than usual look at the SWAC flying field from onboard the AXN Clouds Fly Floater Jet RC plane.

Low and slow with an AXN RC plane (testing the hatcam)
Don't get too excited -- I'm just testing out the hat-cam which allows me to video RC planes I'm flying when there's nobody about to hold the camera for me. Excuse the wobbly start (obviously walking isn't a good idea with the hatcam on) and the very dull, overcast conditions that made the quality of the video rather poor. Don't know where our summer has gone (damn!). But this video shows how easily the AXN Floater Jet can be flown very slowly and at very low altitude. Even when I stuff it up, there's no damage to the model. This is as much fun as doing high-speed passes in a strong wind!

AXN Floater does 110MPH - RC plane
We previously measured the speed of the AXN Floater RC plane at 120kph and on Thursday, the wind was blowing at around 60kph. This means that on the down-wind passes, Richard's stock-standard AXN had a groundspeed of 180kph which is in excess of 110mph. Pretty impressive! Next up it's my turn - stay tuned, it was a great day for flying AXN's in the wind!

***READ***: yea, i know, i must be ill. fathead is now officially airborne. plane is a nearly stock AXN Floater-jet or otherwise known as a Clouds-Fly, purchased for, wait for it, 59$ artf. just needs battery (12$) and a radio. the radio im using is a 28$ hobbyking 2.4ghz HK-T4A 4ch. very basic, but has good range. also has DUAL ANTENNAS on the reciever (like the 300+$ spektrum radios) . no interference, no fuss. 5x5 pusher prop included. it is a similar plane to the multiplex easy star, but with ailerons and a very powerful brushless motor/esc combo. aileron servos changed due to failure of a stock one. changed for HXT-900 servos - 3$ each. battery: 1600mah 3s 20c turnigy. camera is a FlyCamOne2. mounted up front, it counteracts the light weight of the small battery, but the plane is still tail heavy. Over powered AXN Floater 505 Watts

RC plane Yes, I'm afraid it was yet another perfect day in paradise, despite the "mid-winter" status we *should* be suffering under right now down here in the Southern hemisphere. Ron brought out is little squadron of RC planes and did some flying. Knobby got some new stickers (courtesy of Knobby King) and a big fat 4S 5000mAH battery. The AXN Fenix got a few mods to the wing incidence that make it fly about 500 times better than it did before. AXN Floater RC plane with a wheel (Ron's idea)
Ron decided to fit a wheel to his AXN Clouds Fly Floater Jet RC plane. It kind of works -- but the takeoffs are "exciting" and taxiing it on the tarmac produces a lot of wear on the nose. Ron says he'll be taking it off... back to the drawing board I guess. Just more flying fun from the SWMAC in Tokoroa New Zealand.
