Baby Elephant Taking a Bath

This baby elephant was taking a bath in the drinking water basin and playing at an elephant hospital in Thailand. It was an orphan, found in Cambodia. Most likely, its mother died in a landmine. A grown up elephant which was healing from an injury at the hospital took it in as its own.

Columbus Zoo Trumpets News of Elephant Birth

The much anticipated birth of an Asian elephant calf at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, www.columbuszoo.org , occurred on March 27 at approximately 2 pm after a 655 day gestation period. The male calf, later named Beco (BEE-co), stood within 15 minutes. Phoebe's health was monitored throughout her pregnancy including an exercise regimen and regular ultrasounds and blood draws. On Wednesday her progesterone levels dropped significantly indicating the onset of the birthing process. This is 21-year-old Phoebe's third offspring and her second with sire Coco, 38 years of age. Phoebe and Coco made Columbus Zoo history on April 16, 2004 with the arrival of Bodhi (BO-dee), the Zoo's first successful elephant birth. Thirty-five-year-old Connie completes the Columbus Zoo elephant herd. "I commend the dedicated staff and volunteers who love and care for these animals every day, and who have devoted their time and expertise to make this joyful event possible" said Jeff Swanagan, the Columbus Zoo's Executive Director. "We look forward to watching him grow and since baby elephants develop fast - Bodhi gained 2 1/2 pounds a day - people will want to visit him often." An endangered species, Asian elephants are represented by an estimated 38000 to 51000 individuals living in fragmented populations in the wild. Agriculture, deforestation and conflict with humans pose a constant threat to wild Asian Elephants. "We have the opportunity every day to inspire people to care about wildlife and ...

Henry Mancini - Baby Elephant Walk

Thanks for 3.100 views! IMPORTANT__________Disclaimer: This video is made for entertainment purposes and not for personal gain.I Dont Own The song "Baby Elephant Walk was made and is owned by Henry Mancini I don't claim ownership of these materials!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...................................... "Baby Elephant Walk" is a tune written in 1961 by composer Henry Mancini, for the 1962 release of the movie Hatari! The composer combines brass instruments (including repeated blasts from the tuba) and woodwind elements to convey the sense of a toddler that is large and plodding, but nonetheless filled with the exuberance of youth. The catchy, jazzy simplicity of the tune has made it one of Mancini's most popular works, prompting its appearance on nearly twenty later compilation and best of/greatest hits albums. As the allmusic.com album review states, "if Hatari! is memorable for anything, it's for the incredibly goofy 'Baby Elephant Walk,' which has gone on to be musical shorthand for kookiness of any stripe. Get this tune in your head and it sticks." Hal David reportedly composed lyrics to Mancini's tune, which were never used. The cheerful tone, like that of Mancini's "The Pink Panther Theme", presents a stark contrast to more melancholy Mancini standards such as "Moon River". Due to its "goofy" sound, it is often used in a humorous context, as in an episode of The Critic. It was also covered by a number of performers in the 1960s, including Bill Haley & His Comets who ...

Baylor and Tupelo in the Pool

Now that spring is approaching and the temperatures are slowly rising, kids all over Houston are starting to think about swimming and playing outside. The baby elephants at the Houston Zoo are no exception. Recently, the keepers gave Baylor and Tupelo a big kiddie pool. Now that Baylor weighs more than 1100 pounds and Tupelo weighs more than 600 pounds, the small, inflatable pools do not last longer than 5 minutes without getting popped. The babies now get a family size pool which is 120 inches in length and holds both calves. It is a lot more durable. This size pool lasts for about 5 uses before it has to be replaced. Playing in the pool is a fun enrichment activity for the babies and the pool is given to them when the weather allows. Pool time is unannounced and unplanned. Guests who happen to be in the area around the elephant deck at the right time get to enjoy watching the calves splash around in the pool. For those guests who want to see a guaranteed elephant bath, the keepers do bath everyday at 10am with a keeper chat at the barn windows. Read more on our elephant blog: houstonzooblogs.org

Henry Mancini "Baby Elephant Walk" from "Hatari" live

Hit song form 1962 Howard Hawks' motion picture "Hatari" starring John Wayne which was shot in Africa. Seems like I recall hearing Henry Mancini in Washington DC at a concert saying this song would help send his Baby Elephants to college. I always made time to hear Henry Mancini when he was in town. His pianist in the Peter Gunn days was the now famous John Williams.

Henry Mancini - Baby Elephant Walk (Original Stereo)

The music is in stark contrast to "Moon River" which Henry Mancini also composed but demonstrates the versatility and genius of the man. "Baby Elephant Walk" was featured in the 1962 film "Hatari" scored by Mancini starring John Wayne.
Baby Elephant Walk (Henry Mancini) Hatari - Nord C1 Hammond B-3 Clonewheel Organ Clavia

Here is my arrangement of 'Baby Elephant Walk'. Henry Mancini wrote the soundtrack for the 1962 movie 'Hatari' and one song in the soundtrack did very well! Mancini wrote a brief piece of incidental music first used to go with a scene where three baby elephants were taken for a walk. The little song became an international hit as 'Baby Elephant Walk', and has since been recorded by a large number of artists and in many different styles. ---------- A few notes on my arrangement: The original starts with a short solo flute intro, and I'm just adding the bass line. The boogie woogie eight-to-the-bar pattern I'm using is not the same as in the piano sheet music, but I find this left hand pattern suitable for a baby elephant walking :-) I'm playing at around the same pace as the original (120-125BPM). This is an easy-going song. For a bit of contrast and tension I added some fire to my two solo choruses :-) ---------- Theorgan is a Clavia Nord C1 - a Hammond B-3 clonewheel organ. Equalizer not used. Overdrive not used. Reverb Hall, Soft, 50%. Tonewheel mode Vintage 2 (high level of tonewheel crosstalk and cable leakage artefacts).
