Backdraft Trailer
Backdraft is an American movie released in 1991, directed by Ron Howard and written by Gregory Widen. Kurt Russell, William Baldwin, Robert De Niro and Scott Glenn star. Donald Sutherland, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Rebecca De Mornay, Jason Gedrick and JT Walsh are also featured. The story is about firefighters in Chicago on the trail of a serial arsonist. A fictional chemical substance, trychtichlorate, is used by the arsonist to set the fires.

Flashover Or Backdraft Occurs While Crews Are Inside A Working House Fire In New Chicago
Crews were dispatched to a reported house fire at 402 Madison In New Chicago on 02-17-12, On arrival smoke was showing and a working fire was declared. Crews quickly stretched lines into the house to knock the fire down and a hole was cut in the roof of the living room/entrance. Shortly after the hole was cut there was a violent explosion that blew an officers helmet off his head and blew the leaves in the lawn. We are unsure what the explosion was. There were three members in the structure when this happened and all were ok. One other member suffered an asthma attack while fighting the fire and was treated on the scene. The Lake County Fire Investigators Team was requested to the scene to assist with cause and origin.

Backdrafts and flashovers A backdraft is an explosive event at a fire resulting from rapid re-introduction of oxygen to combustion in an oxygen-starved environment, for example, the breaking of a window or opening of a door to an enclosed space. Backdrafts present a serious threat to firefighters,[1] even those with a high level of experience. There is some controversy surrounding the question of whether backdrafts should be considered a type of flashover Although ISO 13943[3] defines flashover as "transition to a state of total surface involvement in a fire of combustible materials within an enclosure," a broad definition that embraces several different scenarios, including backdrafts, there is nevertheless considerable disagreement regarding whether or not backdrafts should properly be considered flashovers.[4] (A different viewpoint: [5]) The most common use of the term flashover is to describe the near-simultaneous ignition of material caused by heat reaching the autoignition temperature of the combustible material and gases in an enclosure; flashovers of this type are not backdrafts as they are triggered by thermal change. Backdrafts, on the other hand, are caused by the introduction of oxygen into an enclosure that may already be hot enough for ignition; thus, backdrafts are triggered by chemical change.
