American rider, Eric Willett, took the first 5Star Big Air title of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season at the second annual Billabong Ante Up competition held atop Whistler Mountain in Canada. The sun was hidden behind the clouds for most of the day, but riders put on a great performance for the crowd of spectators at the top of the mountain where Sebastien Toutant (CAN) came in a close second behind Willett and Dash Kamp (USA) took home third place. The Ante Up started out with a qualifying round of 30 snowboarders in the early afternoon that was whittled down to 10 men for the finals. The start list was packed full of riders who are usually super consistent on big air kickers like Seppe Smits (BEL), Chas Guldemond (USA), Gjermund Braaten (NOR) and Roope Tonteri (FIN) but they just couldn't seem to put their landing gear down on the 90-foot gap jump. This opened the door for Eric Willett who took numerous podium spots at Big Air and Slopestyle competitions last season and for Sebastien Toutant who won the Ante Up last year. Eric Willett landed a smooth switch backside double cork 1260 to take $20000 USD for his win today. Sebastien Toutant was awarded $12500 USD for landing a Cab double cork 1260 and Dash Kamp walked away with a cool $8000 for his backside double cork 1080.

Canadian rider, Mark McMorris, and American, Jamie Anderson, took the first 5Star Slopestyle titles of the 2011/12 TTR World Tour season at the 2011 Burton New Zealand Open. The slopestyle finals went down at Cardrona Alpine Resort with optimal weather conditions making for some great riding. All riders who competed in slopestyle at the New Zealand Open have all earned ranking points towards both the TTR Slopestyle Tour Rankings and the TTR Overall Tour Ranking lists. The competition was run using a best-of-three-run format with women and men alternating on each run. The women took to the course first and it was an immediate battle between two-time TTR World Tour Champion, Jamie Anderson, and Norwegian competition queen, Kjersti Buaas. Jamie held the lead all day and won with a run that included a switch backside 180 tailtap, a front blunt to fakie and a half Cab 5-0 to backside 180 on the jib section and a switch backside 540, frontside 360 and a backside 540 on the jump line. Kjersti came in a close second and Jordie Karlinski (USA) took home third place. The men took the last run of the day and Mark McMorris won the title with a run that consisted of a full Cab stall, Cab 270 frontboard to fakie and a half Cab to backside 360 in the jib section and a backside double cork 1080, frontside 900 and ended with a Cab 1260 on the jump line. Day-break bought a cool crisp morning with a fresh Westerly breeze that ensured the jump was running fast and firm, the scene was set, time to throw down. And throw down they did.... A bright sunny day welcomed the 55 international snowboarders competing in the 5Star Burn Slopestyle finals to the world renowned Swatch Mottolino Snowpark in Livigno, Italy. The slopestyle course featured a Burn can for jibbing as a starter, followed by the choice of a Burn can to bonk or a 2 meter gap box leading in to the massive kicker line made out of a 20 meter kicker, a 19 meter gap jump and a 22 meter kicker at the end. The three run final saw a high level of riding throughout the day, even though snowy grey clouds came in during the last run, but riders powered through the visibility issues with determination. In the end, it was the Norwegian viking Ulrik Badertscher, who took the win with a backside 1080, a double backside rodeo and a huge cab 1080. In a close second came the young Swiss talent Patrick Burgener with a switch backside 900, a backside 1080 double cork and a frontside 900. Third place went to Jamie Nicholls from the UK with his winning run that included a cab 900, frontside 720 and a backside 1080.

Snowboarders from around the world made the trip to Beijing for the first major event of the Swatch TTR season, where they put on a spectacular display of top-level snowboarding for a crowd of excited Chinese fans. The snowboarders were pleased with the massive gap jump setup built out of scaffolding, which had riders dropping in from 40 meters above the ground in the Olympic Sports Center Stadium. The Air & Style events feature a unique head-to-head format and Sebastien Toutant, who won the event with a Cab 1260 double cork, overtook Smits in the final round beating his respectable backside 1260 for second place. Sebastien Toutant was ecstatic saying, "It's awesome, I think it's by far the best moment of my life, for sure. My first 6Star win, I'm stoked to be in China for the first time. Couldn't have been better than to win the event today!" Elhardt was awarded third place for his backside 1080 double cork. With his win Toutant advanced in the TTR World Rankings to the World No. 3 position. Another young gun, Seppe Smits (BEL), took the second place podium spot and Elias Elhardt (GER) took the third place position.

Air & Style Innsbruck Innsbruck Austria, Dec 5 2009 Happy faces at the end of the Air and Style in Innsbruck. Welcome to shralp! episode 139 from December 13, 2009. It was clear that the audience will like this event. Straight Air came back to the Berisel Stadion in Innsbruck Austria where the Air and Style and the straight air concept started ages ago in 1993. But what makes Marko Grilc happy - he wasnt even invited? Well, during practice, conditions changed quickly between icy or slow inrun, soft or hard landing. This lead to some dropouts like Mikkel Bang and TTR#1 Sebastien Toutant due to injuries. Marko got his chance and made it all the way to superfinals. Beating team mate and current TTR champion Peetu Piiroinen he won the Air and Style and became new TTR tour leader himself. Peetu Piiroinen became second - same trick as Marko, but not switch. Third place Andreas Wiig with this Frontside 1080 Double Flip. Iouri Podladtchikov wasnt really sticking anything in the superfinals and became 4th. but kicked out Elias Elhardt in the second round with this trick. Some other runs of this contest: 6th place for Werner Stock. Elias became 7th with this double cork 1080 - he was happy, too. Not so happy: Travis Rice only became 15th. Iouri Podladtchikov has taken victory in a spectacular halfpipe final at the ONeill Evolution in Davos. I feel better now than I did at the end of my run, said Iouri on receiving his prize money. Despite nailing a run of a frontside 540, backside 900, frontside 1080 and a cab double cork 1080, Iouri arrived at the bottom of the halfpipe in frustration. I was so angry. I think I was still really angry from screwing up my first and second run, that I didnt really realise that I had just landed that third run, he said. It was kind of special that I took all my stuff off angrily and then saw my score. His score of 91.33 was more than deserved, and with it he pushed fellow Swiss countryman Markus Keller into second position. However, Markus was the winner of the Swatch Highest Air prize of $5000 for his 4.2m defiance of gravity. The scary part is actually the in-run, said Markus. The part in the air is actually the part where you get to enjoy it! I was first trying an air to fakie, he said. but after all the other riders started to go for a highest air as well I had to change to a frontside air. Ride Team Battles in Beijing: Oakley Shawn White Beijing Air & Style Once again it was time for one of the biggest of the big, big air snowboard events on the planet! The Oakley/Shawn White Beijing Air & Style. On December 3rd the first of two 6 star TTR Air & Style events kicked off in the Beijing Olympic stadium aka "The Birds Nest". The Ride team was well represented with three of our top big air competitors, Sebastien Toutant of Canada, Yuki Kadono of Japan and Clemens Schattschneider of Austria. Sebestian was back to defend his title winning last years Beijing Air & Style with a cab 1260 double cork and was poised to step up his game as this year the riding was sure to be next level. Yuki Kadono the youngster on the team at age 14 held nothing back on the monster of scaffolding that was the jump. Yuki wasnt able to break into the qualifying rounds but put on a great show throughout the event and gained a wealth of experience. Clemens like Yuki are fairly new to this level of competition but have climbed the ranks fast and have become more and more comfortable amongst the big names. Clemens qualified in 4th calling Sebs number in the head to head elimination round format. Clemens couldnt put down his landing gear and Seb was able to move on to the next round and face the eventual winner Ulrik Badertscher. Iouri Podladtchikov, Peetu Piiroinen and Kazuhiro Kokubo talk to the Stwatch TTR World Snowboarding Tour about the 6Star Burton European Open Finals in Laax, Switzerland. Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI), took third place at BEO with big spins in the pipe to move into the TTR World No. 1 spot. But, it was Finnish halfpipe machine, Peetu Piiroinen, who took down the win for the second year in a row, which improved his position in the World Rankings to World No. 3. Peetu blew the crowd away with his last run made up of a frontside 720, Cab double cork 1080, frontside air, backside 900 and a backside alley-oop rodeo. Peetu was very happy with his win saying, "This win means a lot to me, I would not have thought that I would be able to defend my victory from last year. It was a really great weekend, second place in slopestyle and first in pipe and I have some other good results on tour which means I could fight for the TTR title again." Style master, Kazuhiro Kokubo (JPN), took second place with an excellent display of how riders can excel with a run focusing on style in the halfpipe.
