Joan Baez - Farewell Angelina (HQ)

This song sung by "Joan Baez" was written by "Bob Dylan" and the title of this song was also the name of Joan's album which was released in 1965 and peaked at number 10 in the album charts. In my opinion "Joan Baez" is probably the greatest female folk singer of all time, and she is also a very good guitar player.she has recorded so many great songs over the years and this is just one of many of her songs that i really like.

Joan Baez - Where Are You Now My Son

Bài hát chống chiến tranh của Mỹ xâm lược Việt Nam do ca sỹ nhạc đồng quê nổi tiếng Joan Baez sáng tác dưới tiếng còi báo động và âm thanh gầm rú của B 52 đánh phá Hà nội năm 1972. Where Are You Now My Son Artist:Joan Baez (Words and Music by Joan Baez) It's walking to the battleground that always makes me cry I've met so few folks in my time who weren't afraid to die But dawn bleeds with the people here and morning skies are red As young girls load up bicycles with flowers for the dead An aging woman picks along the craters and the rubble A piece of cloth, a bit of shoe, a whole lifetime of trouble A sobbing chant comes from her throat and splits the morning air The single son she had last night is buried under her They say that the war is done Where are you now, my son? An old man with unsteady gait and beard of ancient white Bent to the ground with arms outstretched faltering in his plight I took his hand to steady him, he stood and did not turn But smiled and wept and bowed and mumbled softly, "Danke shoen" The children on the roadsides of the villages and towns Would stand around us laughing as we stood like giant clowns The mourning bands told whom they'd lost by last night's phantom messenger And they spoke their only words in English, "Johnson, Nixon, Kissinger" Now that the war's being won Where are you now, my son? The siren gives a running break to those who live in town Take the children and the blankets to the concrete underground ...

Joan Baez - And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda

(See Lyrics below.) A song about a young Australian soldier maimed during the Battle of Gallipoli (1915) during the First World War; written by Eric Bogle in 1972. The paintings of Degas, Sargent, and the visual arts of Spadecaller, augment the song's theme. LYRICS: Now when I was a young lad I carried me pack And I lived the free life of the rover. From the Murray's green banks, to the dusty outback While I waltzed my Matilda all over. Then in 1915, my country said, 'Son, It's time you stop ramblin', there's work to be done.' So they gave me a tin hat, and they gave me a gun, And they marched me away to the war. And the band played 'Waltzing Matilda,' As the ship pulled away from the quay, Amidst the songs and the cheers, the flag waving, and tears, We sailed off for Gallipoli. And how well I remember that terrible day, How our blood stained the sand we call Suvla Bay We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter. The big Turkish shell caught me arse over head, And when I woke up in my hospital bed And saw what it had done, well, I wished I was dead Never knew there was worse things than dying. So I'll go no more 'Waltzing Matilda,' or through the green bush bars and wide For to hunt and tent peg a man needs both legs, No more 'Waltzing Matilda' for me. They gathered the injured, the wounded, the maimed, And they shipped us all back to Australia. The armless, the legless, the blind, the insane, Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla. And as our ship sailed into Circular ...

Joan Baez : Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands

From her 1968 album, "Any Day Now: Songs of Bob Dylan", Joan Baez sings the song Dylan wrote for Sara Lownds, the woman he began seeing after his love relationship with Baez ended. "Sad-Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" was the closing song on Dylan's 1966 album, "Blonde On Blonde". Joan Baez recorded her Dylan tribute in a Nashville studio cutting country-inflected renditions of 16 Dylan songs. She was backed by Pete Drake, David Briggs, Norbert Putnam, Jerry Reed, Stephen Stills, and others. "Any Day Now" remains one of Baez's essential recordings.

JOAN BAEZ ~ No Nos Moveran On ~

Joan Baez ~ NO NOS MOVERAN ON ~ Joan reads a poem by Pablo Neruda ("The Heights Of Macchu Picchu") Here is the English translation: Arise to birth with me my brother. Give me your hand out of the depths sown by your sorrows. You will not return from these stone fastnesses, You will not emerge from subterranean time. Your rasping voice will not come back, nor your pierced eyes rise from their sockets. Look at me from the depths of the earth, tiller of fields, weaver, reticent shepard, groom of totemic guanacos, mason high on your treacherous scaffolding, jeweler with crushed fingers, farmer anxious among his seedlings, potter wasted among his clays -- bring to the cup of this new life your acient burial sorrows. Show me your blood and your furrow; say to me: here I was scourged because a gem was dull or because the earth failed to give up in time it`s tithe of corn or stone. Point out to me the rock on which you stumbled, the wood they used to crucify your body. Strike the old flints to kindle ancient lamps, lightup the whips glued to your wounds throughout the centuries and light the axes gleeming with your blood. I come to speak for your dead mouths. Throughout the earth let dead lips congregate out of the depths spin this long night to me as if I rode at anchor here with you. And tell me everything, tell chain by chain, and link by link, and step by step; sharpen the knives you kept hidden away, thrust them into my breast, into my hands, like a torrent of sunbursts, an ...

JOAN BAEZ ~ Donna Donna ~

Joan Baez ~ DONNA DONNA ~ Joan says: One of the most recent stories about this song is from May, 1989, when I was still in Czechoslovakia, while the Communist government was still well-entrenched. Humanitas International and I had invited some of the leading dissidents to my concert, incuding Vaclav Havel ( who later became the President of Czechlslovkia). Ot was a government-televised concert and police were all over the place. We had people sit with out dissident friends to keep them from being arrested. "I sang and then invited a banned Slovakian musician to the stage where we got the microphones turned off for the first time. When I introduced Havel, the audience went wild. To close the concert I asked the "legitimate singers who performed before me to sing the encore with me. They were very hesitant, but I was able to persuade them. I hit about two notes of "Donna Donna" when the sound was cut again. But without a microphone in a hall of about 4000 people we sang "Donna Donna." You could have heard a pin drop. Someone had taken the very serious personal risk of turning off the house music. Even the police were to embarrassed to interrupt and do their job. It was an important moment ------ a big victory. Recorded in concert for CBC Radio Montreal, Canada, 1969.

Joan Baez - Suzanne

Live at Festival des Vieilles Charrues, Carhaix, Bretagne, FRANCE, 2000. Suzanne was written by Leonard Cohen, first as a poem in 1966. Joan often covers that song. IF YOU LIKE JOAN BAEZ'S MUSIC, PLEASE BUY IT :) Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river You can hear the boats go by You can spend the night beside her And you know that she's half crazy But that's why you want to be there And she feeds you tea and oranges That come all the way from China And just when you mean to tell her That you have no love to give her Then she gets you on her wavelength And she lets the river answer That you've always been her lover And you want to travel with her And you want to travel blind And you know that she will trust you For you've touched her perfect body with your mind. And Jesus was a sailor When he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching From his lonely wooden tower And when he knew for certain Only drowning men could see him He said "All men will be sailors then Until the sea shall free them" But he himself was broken Long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone And you want to travel with him And you want to travel blind And you think maybe you'll trust him For he's touched your perfect body with his mind. Now Suzanne takes your hand And she leads you to the river She is wearing rags and feathers From Salvation Army counters And the sun pours down like honey On our lady of the harbour And she shows ...
