(Persian: غلامحسين بنان) was an Iranian musician and singer. He was born into a musical family. This is a very old, very rare recording of a lyrical song ("Tasnif") in the avaz (mode) of bayateh tork, composed by Ostad Mahmoud Zoufonoun and sung by the late, great Ostad Ghollamhossein Banan. Depicted in the historic photo is the National Music Society Orchestra, from which the now legendary Golha programs evolved, and whose musicians are performing this piece with the unique musicianship and voice of Ostad Banan, and under the direction of Ostad Zoufonoun. Avaz in Chahargah, recorded around 1947, featuring Ostad Zoufonoun (then age 27!) on violin and Ostad Gholam Hossein Banan on vocal, and with the tar of Soleiman Rooh-Afza accompanying. The tombak player is very likely Ostad Hossein Tehrani. This a very rare recording taken from a record (original image of the vinyl shown).
