Daniel Barenboim plays Mozarts's 18 Piano Sonatas

The Grammy award-winning pianist Daniel Barenboim, long known for his Mozart interpretations, turns his attention to Mozart's piano sonatas, a body of work that, while forming the core of the pianist's repertory, is not often heard in the concert hall. These sonatas showcase Mozart's genius for the small-scale, and truly shine in Barenboim's masterful rendering. This collection includes all eighteen sonatas, from well-known works like K.545 in C major and K.331 in A major, to lesser-known gems like K.284 in D major and the Fantasia and Sonata in C minor, K.475/457. Directed by Klaus Lindemann & Klaas Rusticus. Daniel Barenboim plays: Piano Sonatas K. 310, 330, 570: Recorded at Max-Joseph-Saal, Münchner Residenz, 1988; Piano Sonatas K. 283, 284, 309, 475 & 457, 545: Recorded at Schloss Haimhausen, 1989; Piano Sonatas K. 279, 280, 281, 282, 311: Recorded at Schloss Haimhausen, 1990; Piano Sonatas K. 331, 332, 333, 533, 576: Recorded at Max-Joseph-Saal, Münchner Residenz, 1990.

BBC. Barenboim on Beethoven - Masterclass on the Sonatas

BARENBOIM ON BEETHOVEN - Masterclass on the Sonatas Renowned pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim's masterclasses on Beethoven's piano sonatas were recorded at Symphony Hall, Chicago. January 2005 The featured works are: the Appassionata Sonata, Op. 57; the first movement of Sonata Op. 31 No. 1 and the third movement of Sonata Op. 109. Barenboim takes each player through their chosen sonata movement, illustrating the importance of structure and the relationships between tempo, harmony and dynamics. Pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim gives a masterclass on the Beethoven piano sonatas, coaching some of the world's rising piano stars who already have international careers (like Lang Lang, here at his best, David Kadouch and Jonathan Biss). Daniel Barenboim in his double role of director and pianist have achieved a very significant place in the most different musical stages. His talent is like a big watershed of ideas and original proposals about the importance of the sound, modulation, phrasing, fingering and articulation about some fundamental passages of the most distinguished Beethoven's Piano Sonatas. There are notable, wisdom and substantial observations in this sense through a very warm exchange of points of view with these young pianists, as well with the present audience. An invaluable document that must be seen not only by the newcomers musicians, but for all those who love the music.

A live recording from August 2011 in the Cologne Philharmonie will appear in June as a 5-CD box on Decca Classics. This all-embracing project also includes a world tour covering four continents, which already began in August 2010 at the legendary Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. In 2012 the orchestra will tour Europe with their Beethoven, beginning on 10 July with a performance at the Munich Philharmonie and concluding on 2 August in Salzburg. Other high-points of the tour will include appearances at Berlin's legendary Waldbühne, in Madrid and Paris as well as performances of all nine symphonies at the BBC Proms in London. Barenboim, Boulez and the Staatskapelle Berlin performing Liszt Piano Concertos (trailer)

New ACCENTUS Music release on DVD and Blu-ray: For the very first time Daniel Barenboim tackled Franz Liszt's two highly virtuosic piano concertos in a single concert. With Pierre Boulez, his friend and esteemed colleague of many years, conducting Barenboim's own orchestra, the Staatskapelle Berlin, they were showered with praise on their tour across Europe. For both musicians, Liszt was one of the most important pioneers of modern music, as composer, conductor and pianist. He influenced revolutionary contemporaries such as Robert Schumann and Richard Wagner. Two examples of the latter's magnificent orchestral work round off this concert programme celebrating Liszt's bicentenary. Available worldwide at the end of February 2012.

Barenboim play Bach's Goldberg Variations

In 1741 Johann Sebastian Bach published the fourth and last volume of his most extensive keyboard publication, the Clavier-Übung: an aria and thirty variations known universally as the 'Goldberg' Variations. This monumental work, which is about eighty minutes long, is unquestionably one of the towering masterpieces of Western music. At times the 'Goldberg' Variations anticipate the keyboard writing of nearly a hundred years later. They present the performer with a great challenge, which Daniel Barenboim successfully addresses by using the piano to 'orchestrate' the music, creating the illusion of clearly defined instrumental sounds. Recorded at Bavaria Musikstudios Munich, 1992, Directed by Christopher Nupen. Produced by Metropolitan Munich in association with Allegro Films. Johann Sebastian Bach: Goldberg Variations, BWV 988. Released on DVD, EuroArts 2066778. The DVD includes an introduction to the 'Goldberg' Variations by Daniel Barenboim (in English).

Ludwig van Beethoven - Piano Concerto No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 - Daniel Barenboim, piano

ABOUT THE PIANO CONCERTOS BY BEETHOVEN Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, op. 15 Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, op. 15, was written during 1796 and 1797. The first performance was in Prague in 1798, with Beethoven himself playing the piano, dedicated to his student Babette Countess Keglevics. Although this was Beethoven's first piano concerto to be published, it was, in fact, his third attempt at the genre, following an unpublished piano concerto in E-flat major (not to be confused with Beethoven's more famous "Emperor" concerto, also in E-flat) and the Piano Concerto No. 2, published after Piano Concerto No. 1 (in 1801) but composed almost ten years earlier. More: en.wikipedia.org Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 19 The Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat major, Op. 19, by Ludwig van Beethoven was composed primarily between 1787 and 1789, although it did not attain the form it was published as until 1795. Beethoven did write another finale for it in 1798 for performance in Prague, but that is not the finale that it was published with. It was used by the composer as a vehicle for his own performances as a young virtuoso, initially intended with the Bonn Hofkapelle. It was published in 1801, by which time he had also published the Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, although it had been composed after this work, in 1796 and 1797. The B-flat major Piano Concerto became an important display piece for the young Beethoven as he sought to establish ...

(HD) Ludwig van Beethoven "Moonlight" Sonata. III Presto Agitato - Daniel Barenboim (3/3)

Ludwig van Beethoven "Moonlight" Sonata em Dó Sustenido Menor - Allegretto - Daniel Barenboim The "Moonlight", "Clair de Lune", "Mondschein Sonaten" label for this work was coined not by the composer but, five years after his death, by the German poet and music critic Ludwig Relistab. However, Beethoven did describe the work (along its partner, op.27, no.1) as "quasi una fantasia" and the rhapsodic approach this sugets is felt in its unorthodox form. Its begins, unusually, with a slow movement, wich connects to the next movement without a break. Beethoven calls for this calmy rippling fisrt movement to be "played throughout with the utmost delicacy". By 1801 Beethoven had begun to admit his incoming deafness to the wider world; this and his dedication of the sonata to the young italian countess Giulietta Guicciardi - a pupil around half his age - may account for the world's unusual and highly personal nature. Daniel Barenboim perfomed the cycle of Beethoven piano sonatas when he was a teenager. The cycle he recorded for Deutsche Grammophon has held its place in the catalogue for thirty years... "Insight and technical command in equal abundance". This particular disc, of the "named" sonatas, has been a natural favourite over the time. Daniel Barenboim live in Berlin.

Daniel Barenboim - Tango Argentina

Tango has long become more than the popular Argentine urban dance which developed after 1870 in the poor working class and immigrant areas on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Tango has aficionados worldwide -- be it for its music, culture or the dance. On New Year's Eve 2006, conductor and pianist Daniel Barenboim, Argentinean by birth and upbringing, celebrated the end of the year with a spectacular musical event: a festival of Argentinean music live from Buenos Aires. In a seamless fusion of classical and traditional music, the Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires under Barenboim joined the excellent bandoneon virtuoso Leopoldo Federico and his Orquesta Tipica to present an extraordinary show with popular tangos and Latin American orchestra classics to a crowd of 10000 in a free open-air concert at the Plaza de la República. Enchanting new arrangements of works by the Argentinean artists Astor Piazzola, Carlos Gardel, Julio de Caro, Alberto Ginastera and Horacio Salgan and performances by the leading tango dancers Mora Godoy and Junior Cervila from Buenos Aires added to the atmosphere of a night of "Tangos sinfónicos". Fascinating to watch and exciting to listen to -- not just for tango aficionados!
