Mates of State "Maracas"

"Maracas", the first video from Mates of State latest LP Mountaintops, to be released on Sept 13th 2011 on Barsuk Records. The video, patterned after The Old Grey Whistle Test, the seminal British music television show from the 70's and 80's, features the band playing the song in a seemingly live setting, with the bare-bones performance giving the band room to showcase the song's boundless energy, and letting the audience see just how much fun Mates of State have with their music. And, yes, the maracas instrument is certainly featured in the song . Directed by Jimi Patterson and Emmy Pickett.

Soundbites - Music Never Tasted So Good!

Barsuk Records and Barsuk recording artist The Globes are excited to announce the debut of Soundbites. The biggest breakthrough in audio technology since the birth of the MP3, Soundbites will change the way you consume music. Working with ex-NASA audio engineers, Barsuk (the independent label known for supporting quality songwriting and unique creativity) and The Globes (who, based on their "swirling, angsty post-rock," were named one of Alternative Press' "Bands You Need To Know in 2011") have created an alternative to poor quality digital files, expensive, heavy vinyl, and excessively shiny compact discs. It's a lot to swallow, so we've put together a handy explanatory film clip.

Say Hi "Devils"

The first video from the new Say Hi full length Um, Uh Oh. Directed by Carlos Lopez. ""Devils" is more of a rock song than previous Say Hi tracks, so it makes sense that Say Hi's Eric Elbogen would chose a classic rock 'n' roll/blues myth — selling your soul to the devil — as the storyline for its video. It also plays into the song's lyrics, where Elbogen struggles against inescapable anger and bitterness. But both the song and its video are a lot more lighthearted than that description sounds — notice how Elbogen tries not to laugh even as he's falling into the fiery pits of hell." - Stereogum [2/9/11]

Kurt Cobain About A Son: Trailer

Based on more than 25 hours of never-before-heard audiotaped interviews conducted by noted journalist Michael Azerrad, the movie KURT COBAIN ABOUT A SON is an intimate and moving portrait of the late musician and artist Kurt Cobain, told entirely in his own voice — without celebrity soundbites, news clips, sensational or tabloid angles. It's who he was from the man himself, with cinematic imagery shot on film of the three cities in Washington State that played a major role in his life (Aberdeen, Olympia and Seattle) and set to an evocative score by noted Northwest musician and producer Steve Fisk and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Benjamin Gibbard, as well as the music of more than 20 artists who influenced or touched Cobain during his life. Kurt Cobain About A Son opens in select markets in October.
