Nets - The Origins Of Species ( On the origin of the species ). Documentary about the origins of the European languages, and about the origin of the oldest living (spoken) language in Europe: Euskera. Looks like all actual European languages are the evolution of a common language that came into Europe 8 thousand years ago, called the Indo-European language. But there is one language in Europe, which does not belong to that common language called Indo-European language, and looks like the evolution of some language that was spoken in Europe 20 thousand years ago: The name of this oldest spoken European language is Euskera. But this language has not it´s own country; surprising ... So, are Basque people a country or not? They have not precisely a short history ...

French Basque Country: A Cultural Blend

The land where Spain and France meet the Atlantic is Basque Country. Compared to their more stridently Basque neighbors across the border in Spain, Basques living in France seem more integrated into French culture. Nestled in the Pyrenees, St.-Jean-Pied-de-Port has an endearing energy, with its mix of day tripping families and determined pilgrims using the town as a springboard for the time honored pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in NW Spain, 500 miles away. Visit Bayonne on the coast to feel the region's urban pulse. The cathedral marks the town's old center where tall, slender buildings, decorated with typically Basque green-and-red shutters, tower above narrow streets. Basques in the West

Along the banks of the Snake River, through the passes of the Sawtooth Mountains, past the rims of the canyon lands of Southern Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and Northern Nevada, is the story of a people often overlooked in Northwestern history. The Basques have been around for generations in these areas, herding sheep and adding their vibrant culture to the beauty of the land. The documentary we intend to make features the Basque people, what they have done to add culture and vitality to the west, the sheep industry, and the changes they are having to make to keep tradition alive and their livelihoods sustainable.

Béarn and the Basque Country

Read blog: www.eurodestination.com Photos at: www.flickr.com This video is essentially the result of my tour through the heart of the Basque and Béarn regions. I started the journey by landing at Biarritz airport from where I took a hire car. I then drove for about 1 hour east, finally arriving at the small town of Monein, which is a short distance from the city of Pau. Here, I had the great pleasure of meeting many local people in and around Monein, including the owners of a new wine bar in the village, the owners of two delightful "Chambre d'Hote" (what most of us know as B&B's) and two brothers, Fabrice and Sebastien Bordenave, local winegrowers (00:22). From Monein I travelled cross-country through Navarrenx, Sauveterre-de-bearn, Sain-Palais, Hasparren, Cambo-les-Bains, Bayonne and finally back into central Biarritz, which I have to say is a world away from Monein. In the video the fortified walls are of the town of Navarrenx (1:25), the medieval buildings next to the river are from Sauveterre-de-bearn (1:45), the beautiful waterside views are from Saint Palais (2:20), the Basque houses are mainly in the Hasparren area (2:45). The opening scene is of Eglise St Girons, at Monein, which is unique in that it was fully financed by local people when it was built back in the 16th century rather than by the French King. Monein was a very wealthy area at the time because of its wine-making, and had a population of 5000 when Pau only had 500. Also in the video is Lacommande (0 ...

Santi Brouard, Basque independentist killed by the Spanish State

Santi Brouard (Lekeitio, 1919 - Bilbao, 20 November 1984) was a doctor and Basque politician. He was one of the leaders of Herri Batasuna, member of the Spanish Senate representing the party, and deputy major in Bilbao. He was killed by the Spanish State via the palamiritary group GAL. This video shows how the Basque people reacted to this murder with a complete 2-days-long general strike. If you wish, you can help me translate this video to other languages. I use DotSub.
