10L Bass Reflex Boxes, constructed of 5/8" ply, covered with decorative paper. They have wireless receivers from cheapo Home Depot speakers on the back. Cones have been treated with 3 thin coats of Mod Podge. A baffle step correction (BSC) and Zobel filter have been included to tame the top end. This is a sample of the sound - since the mic is just a cheap Canon PowerShot digicam, don't read too much into it. They sound very balanced, bass isn't huge but nevertheless present. i thought id make this video to show what i have done with my bachmann class 37s, i was frustrated with the sound and performance, so i altered the cvs given below, and fitted the loco with a Bass enhanced 20mm x 40mm fitted in the roof, and a Bass reflex 58mm x 22mm fitted in the fuel tanks, both from the lovely people at dcc supplies, the loco now sounds out of this world, the cvs were altered as follows, cv2= 1 cv3= 60 cv4=10 cv5= 30 cv6= 15 this after many hours of messing i find gives a good top speed, with carefull driving a good sync of sound, also realistic move off and slow down, in this video i altered my notch up and notch down functions as piemanlarger suggested, i was frustrated with the uncontrollable notching from the box, so i took his advice and made f5 notch up momentary, and f6 notch down latch, this enables me to move off with thrash, as seen in the video, and also enables the bachmann 37s to be ideal for moving on a small yard layout, by holding f5 for a few seconds, to rev up, then a few more seconds for the thrash, then move away and drive like a real loco, it also enables a smooth stop, i suggest anyone with a bachmann 37 who was frustrated with the oob performance to try these settings and it will become a joy, hope this helps cheers rob.

The dummy car (at the front) is fitted with a custom speaker that basically fills the body. The loudspeaker's drive unit is taken from a DCC supplies bass reflex speaker and fires downwards through a large hole cut in the tanks. The improvement was significant, revealing bass sounds previously inaudible with a conventional bass reflex speaker. Maximum volume was increased by around 50%. Note the difference in volume and bass in the rear power car, which still has a standard bass reflex speaker with the same sound chip and volume setting. The sound project is my own, using recordings made by a friend of mine. It features the distinctive sound of the Marston cooler group on a user-selectable function key, which can be left on for as long as you like. Weathered BR Blue Bachmann class 37 with Olivias Trains sound chip at full thrash on the layout. This loco has been fitted with two bass reflex speakers in the fuel tanks and I think the recording is much more realistic than Bachmann's own version. The twin bass reflex speaker installation really does reproduce that heavy growl of a class 37 throbbing away at the front of a heavy load. Highly recommended!

Sub-woofer Bass Reflex System with 2 x 15'' woofers for each box All you need for the construction of the box is vinylic glue, recycled hard cardboard, tape, silicone and paint. ....... Very very cheap!!!!!! The box was built with 4 layers of thick cardboard glued together. As the glue dries it hardens and the layers become hard as wood. In this way the box is capable of resonance and can reproduce extra low frequencies. This system can reproduce very powerful basses. Music is played with a high efficiency almost as if the sub-woofer was built with wood. In this prototype we used black tape to cover the surface of the box but it is possible also to paint it once the glue has dried The woofers where fixed in place with silicone in order to seal and not permit any air to pass When we finished the box we carried out many acustic tests using for example rock (hardrock and heavymetal), classical music and nature sound effects such as waterfalls and others...... We also tested the sound of the tibetan horn which reproduces very very low frequencies. The vibrations can be percieved strongly on your stomach and the rest of your body as it happens when you physically stand next to a tibetan horn. Towards the end of the video you will find specific tests which prove that this Sub-Woofer System can reproduce extra low frequencies (also subsonic frequencies)
