This event will see sixteen of the globe's best dancers compete head-to-head, pitting their distinctive moves and technical genius against each other in a knock out contest which defines the epitome of breaking. Originally hosted in Biel, Switzerland in 2004 and followed by battles in Germany in 2005, and Brazil in 2006, the Red Bull BC One now moves to African shores as the world's best B-Boys compete in the event on September 22, in Soweto Johannesburg, South Africa. Known as one of the most culturally rich nations in the world, South Africa prides itself on its diversity. The country, an international tourist hotspot, has an established alternative art and culture scene which grew out of the oppression of Apartheid and its restrictions on the freedom of speech and press. This year, its 13th year of true independence, also sees the celebration of 25 years of Hip Hop in the country. Seeded into the local collective in the early 1980s, Hip Hop became a support structure for both established and amateur artists as early pioneers of the culture used its positive message to motivate the youth.
