Ruler On Ice, dismissed at 24-1, sat a perfect trip under a patient Jose Valdivia, Jr., taking the lead at the top of the stretch and holding off another longshot, Stay Thirsty, to win Saturday's 143rd running of the Grade 1, $1 million Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park. Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, the 5-2 favorite, fell back to last shortly after the start when he clipped heels with Mucho Macho Man, who was bumped by Isn't He Perfect. Under jockey John Velazquez, who lost his left stirrup and didn't regain it until the first turn, Animal Kingdom made a gallant run to gain third on the far turn, but couldn't sustain his bid and finished sixth in the third and final leg of racing's Triple Crown. With Preakness winner Shackleford setting moderate fractions of 23.92, 49.08, 1:14.51, 1:39.95 and 2:05.09, Valdivia bided his time and didn't ask Ruler On Ice for run until the field straightened for home. The gelding, running with blinkers for the first time, eagerly began picking up the pace and struck the lead approaching the eighth pole, going on to a three-quarter length victory over Stay Thirsty and completing the 1 ½ miles in 2:30.88 over the sloppy, sealed main track. The win, Ruler On Ice's first in a stakes race, made him only the second gelding ever to win the Belmont, joining 1985 winner Creme Fraiche.

Maxwell, moderated a discussion with Al Kooper at Belmont University's Quonset Hut (known as Columbia's Studio "B" in the 1960's) - part of the same building complex which housed Columbia's Studio "A" (where Blonde On Blonde was recorded). Although Kooper boasts incredible credentials from his fifty-year music career, he is most famous for his work with the legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. This is the condition of my 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom apartment on move out. We were told we made no damages to the apartment and was given no warning of charges during the pre-inspection (states in the lease that any charges must be known at this time). However we were still charged a $213.55 for "normal turn over" fees. Doesn't sound "normal" to me. - We scheduled a pre-inspection with the apartment, first scheduled appointment, the office flaked and we were not told until we showed up for the appointment. Waste of an afternoon, so we had to reschedule. The second time the maintenance guy was 20 minutes late and said nothing to us during the walk through or take any notes. The contract says they must provide an itemized statement if there are cleaning, repairs and other damages at this time, giving us the chance to lower any costs to pay. Instead he gave us no nothing. After move-out when we got our itemized statement it said we owed $213.55 in cleaning charges. The itemized statement is SUPER vague and they won't tell you what was actually done it just says cleaning $120, touch up paint $20 and shampoo carpet $75. This is nearly half our total deposit! When talking to the office they replied... "I'm suprised $200 is cheaper then what we usually charge and these are normal turnover charges."
