RUMBLE ABOVE THE CLOUDS: Michael Berube
Do you hear that sound? It's a Rumble Above the Clouds, Openings 5th group exhibition at the historic Church of St. Paul the Apostle. Openings, an artists' collective on Manhattan's West Side, which seeks to spark discussion and interaction in the creative community, presents their largest group exhibition to date. The show will feature painting, sculpture, photography, video and site specific installations that will be installed throughout the church. Yellow Peril Gallery is pleased to share this exclusive interview with MICHAEL BERUBE, one of the participating artists from RUMBLE ABOVE THE CLOUDS. Michael Bérubé is the Paterno Family Professor in Literature and the Director of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities at Penn State University, where he holds appointments in the Department of English and the Program in Science, Technology, and Society. He is the author of seven books to date: "Marginal Forces / Cultural Centers: Tolson, Pynchon, and the Politics of the Canon" (Cornell UP, 1992); "Public Access: Literary Theory and American Cultural Politics" (Verso, 1994); "Life As We Know It: A Father, A Family, and an Exceptional Child" (Pantheon, 1996; paper, Vintage, 1998); "The Employment of English: Theory, Jobs, and the Future of Literary Studies" (NYU Press, 1998); "What's Liberal About the Liberal Arts? Classroom Politics and 'Bias' in Higher Education" (WW Norton, 2006); "Rhetorical Occasions: Essays on Humans and the Humanities" (UNC Press, 2006) and "The Left at War" (NYU Press, 2009). This short clip shows footage of numerous cross-Canada and European Tours between 2008-2010. Some highlights were the Calgary and Regina Folk Festivals; the Paléo Festival in Switzerland; opening for The Cranberries in Geneva; recording the album at Hotel 2 Tango with Howard Bilerman with special guests Hattie Webb and Dan Mangan; late night hotel jam with Mina May in Annecy, France; and pushing a piano through old European streets.
