Let's face it, we've all seen amusing pet videos online and after a while they all start to look the same. Not this time. Meet Norman, a two-and-a-half year old Briard dog that has learned how to ride a bike. You know how some kids are slow to master the art of two wheels? The Daily Mail reports it took the pooch just 10 weeks to master the art of riding his personalized bicycle. I'm not kidding. Man's best friend can now ride a special designed bike around his South Carolina neighborhood. This curious canine has taken a very strong liking to his new form of transportation. "Right now he totally loves his bike because it is a totally new concept for him," his owner Karen told the Daily Mail. "The most difficult part of training him to do this was building up the muscles in his back legs. ... It was the 'hump' or the rotation over the pedals that was causing him to tire out quickly and now he knows to build the momentum because otherwise if the pedals are straight it can be too hard for him to turn them over," she said. By the way, Norman has already enjoyed his 15 minutes of fame before. This bike riding adventure is just the latest trick for Norman, who has already had appearances on David Letterman's show, the Cartoon Network and Good Morning America among other TV programs for his scooter riding ability. The road corkscrews up the mountain and has just over 1000' of climbing in a little less than 3 miles of road. This is the biggest climb that cyclists can find within hours. Back by popular demand I continue the extensive bicycle tour of Brooklyn neighborhoods. this time I bike through the neighborhood of Gravesend. Gravesend (pronounced GRAVE'S end, not grave SEND) is a neighborhood in the south-central section of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, USA. The derivation of the name is unclear. Some speculate that it was named after the English seaport of Gravesend, Kent. An alternative explanation suggests that it was named by Willem Kieft for the Dutch settlement of "'s- Gravesande", which means "Count's Beach" or "Count's Sand". There is also a town in the Netherlands called 's-Gravenzande. Gravesend was one of the original towns in the Dutch colony of New Netherland and became one of the six original towns of Kings County in colonial New York. It was the only English chartered town in what became Kings County and was designated the "Shire Town" when the English assumed control, as it was the only one where records could be kept in English. Courts were removed to Flatbush in 1685. The former name survives, and is now associated with a neighborhood in Brooklyn. Gravesend is notable for being founded by a woman, Lady Deborah Moody; a land patent was granted to the English settlers by Governor Willem Kieft, December 19, 1645. A prominent early settler was Anthony Janszoon van Salee. Jonas Colting is still in the lead of Ultraman World Championships after second day of racing. The athletes were facing a 171.4 mile bike ride today (276 km) from Volcanoes National Park to Hawi. - I´ve never had a ride in such extreme conditions! Today we had torrential rains, heat and extreme winds. I was literally fearing for my life going up and down the Kohala Mountains, Jonas says. Alexandre Ribeiro from Brazil is now in third position 15 minutes behind, Michael Coughlin is second 7 minutes behind. Jonas got a six minutes penalty at Kohala Mountain Road on his last climb up to Hawi when his crew car had to protect him from cars from behind due to strong sidewinds. That wasn't the only thing that slowed him down today. - I have an injury in my left glute that has been hard to diagnose. It gets really sore at times and today it was horrible. I was in so much pain for the better part of the ride and it was very demoralizing not being able to ride as well as I wanted to, Jonas says.
