A biography of Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, one of the greatest preachers of the 20th Century. Dr Lloyd-Jones' reputation as an inspired, authoritative and prophetic preacher of the Christian faith developed in his first church, Bethlehem Forward Movement Church in Aberavon, Wales, which experienced remarkable conversions. His reputation then grew steadily over 30 years of ministry in Westminster Chapel, London, England, between 1938 and 1968. For much of that time he preached to congregations averaging 1500 on Sunday mornings and 2000 on Sunday evenings. He continued to be influential during the 12 years of his retirement, counselling other ministers, answering letters, holding many telephone conversations, writing books based upon his sermons and preaching at special events. There is something of a timeless quality about Martyn Lloyd-Jones's preaching, which through audio recordings and books is still having a significant impact today.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Khyal Muhammad, son of Spin Gul, was born in Peshawar in 1946. He belongs to the Afridi tribe of Pukhtuns. His ancestors settled in Peshawar before Khyal Muhammad was born. Khyal Muhammad has 8 brothers and 2 sisters. Khyal Muhammad has been married three times. one of his wife [named Janana and very good singer herself] is daughter of pashto singer Kishwar Sultan. Of his 15 children, so far only Anwar Khyal and Wisal Khyal have chosen music as a profession. All of his family members, including his father and brothers, have been associated with music in some way. One of his brothers [named Saif-Ul-Maluk] was a well known singer during 1960s who recorded many songs at the Radio Station Peshawar. It was his brother [Saif-Ul-Maluk] who introduced Khyal Muhammad [aged 13 years at the time] to Radio Station Peshawar in 1958, recording the following song: [Zama Da Khkulay Zwanai Byaa, Byaa Naway Daoraan Dhey] This record is unfortunately not available because at that time the idea of preserving music was not a priority for the station's management. This is understandable given lack of financial resources, technical know-how, and many other constraints the management faced then. The station's management is not completely innocent however, because genuine lapses have occurred and voices of great artists have been lost. Khyal Muhammad's association with Pashto music is unique. BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Muhammad Rafiq Shinwari was born in Ningarhar, Afghanistan. He was a kid when he migrated with his mother to Peshawar after his father's death. His mother was a religious person, and would take along Rafiq Shinwari when she would visit Hazrat Abdul Sattar Shah Bacha [a pious and greatly revered personality of Peshawar]. Religious upbringing by his mother, and visits to Hazrat Shah Sattar Bacha darbar shaped Rafiq Shinwari's life trajectory in three important ways. First, he got the opportunity to meet Amir Hamza Shinwari, who for all practical purposes became his teacher and mentor. Amir Hamza Shinwari himself was a devout follower of Hazarat Abdul Sattar Shah Bacha, and often visited the darbar. Second, it was at the Sattar Shah Bacha darbar that the bare essentials of Rafiq Shinwari music career were laid. Rafiq Shinwari while still a kid would regularly sing carols at the darbar with other devotees. Finally, and most importantly as Rafiq Shinwari would say, it was this association with Shah Sattar Shah bacha that nourished and cultivated Rafiq Shinwari's mystic [sufi] inclinations. In the early 1960s, Rafiq Shinwari got the opportunity to sing carols at Radio Station Peshawar. Rafiq Shinwari could not play any musical instrument but was keen to compose music. While once in a while he did compose songs at the Station, it was really in the early 1970s that his career took off and Rafiq Shinwari became the most sought after composer. Her family belongs to the Sayyed class and owns a substantial amount of farmland. Shahnaz has two siblings [a sister and brother]. At young age, Shahnaz was a rebellious person. She left home without her parent consent to seek a movie career in Karachi, where her sister lived at the time. But events did not turn out the way Shahnaz had imagined; She could not establish a foothold in the Urdu movie industry as a mainstream actress. However, this did not influence her committment and determination to make it in the Urdu movie industry. She just left Karachi for Lahore. In Lahore, she got a chance in a pashto movie named "Da Pukhtun Thora" that made her the heart throb of millions of pashtuns. In subsequent years, she had the opportunity to play memorable roles in pashto movies including Khana Badoosh, Dehqaan, Chagha and Da Marg Saudagar. Of these, Chagha and Da Marg Saudagar were released in Urdu language as well. Shahnaz did not want to be confined to pashto movie roles, and seriously weighed her options. She wanted to be known for her talent in Urdu movie; thus she married Urdu and Punjabi movie director Iqbal Kashmiri with the expectation of promoting her movie career in Urdu movies. She was a kid when her father died, and her mother married another man in Jamrud, Peshawar. As her mother did not take her along, Yasmin Khan [Shamshad] was raised by her grand mother. Yasmin Khan had a sister named Saeeda. Her mother and sister probably still live in Jamrud, Peshawar. Yasmin Khan was married three times. Her first marriage was to Urdu/Pashto film actor Saqi, from whom she had a daughter. This daughter of Yasmin Khan played a small role in Pukhtu film Orbal. Basically, she is shown sleeping in a cradle as Yasmin Khan sings a song to her - the first song of Orbal movie. Yasmin Khan's second marriage was with Khurum Bari - owner of Bari Studio, Lahore. She had a daughter named Qara-tul-Aeen, from Khurum Bari. This marriage did not last long as well. Her third marriage was with Arifullah - a young man from Kakshall, Peshawar. Arifullah had auto-related business in Shoba Bazar, Peshawar but liked to attend mujras a lot. This marriage turned out to be catastrophic, essentially resulting in Yasmin Khan's un-timely death in May, 1999. Yasmin Khan was asleep when she was shot in her head. Her daughter Qara-Tul-Aeen was the first to find her mother dead, reporting the murder to the police. Arifullah was held suspect in her death but released after few months from Peshawar jail. After Yasmin Khan's un-timely and brutal death, folks offered many explanations <b>...</b>
Rukhsana was born in Khost province of Afghanistan, and belongs to the Wazir Tribe. She was one of the great Afghan singers during the early 1970s. She came from an upper class family of Afghanistan and many of her family members held higher positions in the Afghan Government of Zahir Shah and Sardar Daud Khan. After the Soviet invasion of Aghanistan in 1978, she migrated to the US and settled in Los Angeles, California. During the time she was associated with the music industry, she recorded many songs. Pashto film actor Amaan was born in Bannu, Pakhtunkhwa in mid 1940s. He started his film career with pashto movie "Kala Kazan Kala Bahar" which was produced before Yousaf Khan Sherbano but released later in 1972. It was a total failure, reducing Amaan's chances of success as actor. He did play a few memorale roles as a villian. His well known pashto movies included Tarbur, Dara Khybar, ZarTaja, Jang aw Aman, Deedan, Arman and Navay Da Yao Ssphay. Amaan quit the film industry in early 1990s and moved Peshawar to try his luck in Peshawar Television Station. He appeared in one pashto TV serial in 1997. I recall seeing him in Peshawar Sadar at the Artist Equity Association Office. It is not clear where Amaan is currently settled. NAVEETA KHAN - Naveeta Khan grew up in Rawalpindi. She was one of the well known singers of the 1970s, and early 1980s. Being a daughter of Pukhto speaking father and Hindko speaking mother, she recorded songs in both languages. Lok-Versa, Islamabad had an audio cassette of her Hindko songs while Radio station, Peshawar recorded about 40 Pakhto songs. I hope Lok-Versa and the station has still got them. Naveeta Khan recorded a few dozen but some of the lovely songs for Pakhto movies such as Orbal, Shaheed, Weena au Meena, and Deedan. Naveeta Khan said good bye to music in early 1990s, and settled in London, United Kingdom. I request all pashto music lovers and others who care to pray for Naveeta Khan's health and happiness.
