Türk Tabipleri Birliği (TTB) ve Kamu Emekçileri Sendikaları Konfederasyonu'nun (KESK) koordinasyonundaki kamu emekçileri grevi başladı. Hükümetin 2 Kasım'da çıkardığı 663 nolu kanun hükmünde kararnameye (KHK) karşı, sağlık çalışanları tepki göstererek bunun hastaneleri şirketleştireceğini, sağlık hizmetlerini ticarileştireceğini ve sağlık çalışanlarının köleleştireceğini söyledi. TTB öncülüğünde meslek örgütleri ve sendikalar 21 Aralık'ta tüm Türkiye'de, bu KHK'nin kimseye danışılmadan bir gecede çıkartılmasına karşı "hastanelerde kendi sağlık meclislerimizi kuracağız ve KHK'yi oylayacağız" diyerek grev kararı aldı. KESK ise konfederasyon olarak hem bünyesindeki Sağlık Çalışanları Sendikası (SES) hem de eğitimciler, büro çalışanları, belediye çalışanları gibi kamu çalışanları ile greve katılma kararı aldı. KESK'in greve gitme nedenleri arasında, grev hakkının yasal teminat altına alındığı bir toplusözleşme düzeni talebi, sendika üyelerine yapılan gözaltı ve tutuklamalara son verilmesi, güvencesiz çalıştırmaya son verilmesi, kıdem tazminatının korunmak istenmesi var. Bugün, hastanelerde acil servisler dışındaki birimler hizmet vermeyecek. KESK'e bağlı belli iş kollarında bir gün hizmet verilmeyecek. Yapılan eyleme polis tarafından panzer takviyesi yapılmasına öfkelenen emekçiler "Direne direne kazanacağız", "Baskılar bizi yıldıramaz", "Faşizme karşı omuz omuza", Faşizme ölüm halka hürriyet" sloganları atarak barikatı aşmaya çalıştı. Arbedenin yaşandığı ve polisin göstericilerden bir kaçına sözlü joplu saldırısına rağmen kitle kararlılığını korudu ve yürüyüşü yapmaya kararlı olduklarını haykırdılar. Görüşmelerin ardından polis yürüyüş güzergahının önünü açmak zorunda kaldı. Yüz metre ileride tekrar önleri kesilen emekçiler bu kez görüşme yapmaksızın polis barikatını aştı. He served as President of Georgia from 1995 to 2003, and as First Secretary of the Georgian Communist Party (GPC, the de facto leader of Soviet Georgia), from 1972 to 1985. Shevardnadze was responsible for many top decisions on Soviet foreign policy in the Gorbachev Era. He was forced to retire in 2003 as a consequence of the bloodless Rose Revolution. Shevardnadze's political career started in the late 1940s as a leading member of his local Komsomol organisation. He was later appointed its Second Secretary, and even First Secretary. His rise up the Georgian Soviet hierarchy continued until 1961 when he was demoted after he insulted a senior official.
