Fair use is a use permitted by copyright statute that might otherwise be infringing. Non-profit, educational or personal use tips the balance in favor of fair use. From the underrated film noir based on the novel by Cornell Woolrich, songwriter/composer Martin Blair (Dan Duryea) waits outside the apartment building of his estranged wife, singer Mavis Marlowe (Constance Dowling). He's hoping to spend quality time with her on their anniversary but Mavis has other plans. She informs the doorman that she does not wish to see Marty at all, under any circumstances. He doesn't take the news well. Seems that Mavis has an appetite for dangerous men (like Peter Lorre as shady nightclub owner Marko) and extortion. She's preparing to blackmail her married lover. Pay attention to the song, "Heartbreak" which is briefly heard in her apartment. I won't give anything else of the plot away. You'll have to see this one for yourself. It is on DVD in the Universal Film Noir Collection. Enjoy!
