For those that are not aware of what Phone Riot is, it is a show that updates you in the latest mobile news. The show airs every Monday's & Friday's. In today's edition of Phone Riot we are going to be talking about Google has purchase Blind Type to improve the typing experince on your device. Many people have said that portrait typing at sometimes seems cramped on the Android platform, but no more with Blind Type. For the many of the people who watch the popular podcast Diggnation, the Blind Type technology was showcased on one of their podcasts. We are also going to be talking about how Microsoft is suing Motorola over nine patents. The patents consist of synchronizing email, calendars and contacts, scheduling meetings, and notifying applications of changes in signal strength and battery power. And lastly we are going to be talking about the T-Mobile G2, which is the successor to the G1 which is the device that started it all of Android. While the device has only a 800MHz CPU, it is a new silicon and seems to be faster than the stranded 1GHz CPU found in devices like the Nexus One. Me typing with 8pen on HTC Desire
This video is a proof showing me typing with 8pen. Really slow, but somehow I managed to remember the position of most keys. And I know there are softwares like Swype/Swiftkey/BlindType which is more superior than this but I just don't like how people spit on it without giving it a try. Video showing me typing with 8pen without the character shown on screen. I paused on each characters keyed in because I am still unsure whether my gestures are correct. Also, this is the result of 2~3 hours of learning. Not very hard to memorize the keys thou :) [Edit] I realize I started to type slightly faster after producing this video. Start to love it :D

R-MAP an application on Android for the Blind or Visually impaired
This application has been developed under the guidance of my professor Dr.Mohammed Yeasin founder of CVPIA Lab, EECE, University of Memphis and can be reached through cvpia.memphis.edu The R-MAP (Reconfigured Mobile Android Phone) takes progress from Android architecture to develop an application with simple user interface that provides reading services to the visually impaired or blind. New Notetaker for the Blind: The Apple iPad
This, IMHO, is probably the biggest thing since sliced bread for the blindness PDA industry. Most of our PDAs have rather mediocre storage, by today's standards, and for that storage & custom user interface that makes the device friendly for people who are blind, you pay about as much as you would for a good gaming PC (approximately $1000-$2000). This is the first possibility for a notetaking solution that I've seen, talking out of the box, for under $1000. What do you get for that approximately $900? 64GB of flash storage, WiFi 802.11n (most notetakers are stuck at B or G), it talks out of the box (same setup procedure as the iPhone in iTunes), full sized keyboard on the dock, and the iWork suite ($30 for a full suite that is near-desktop experience; $10 each for individual apps). I love this. Braille may be coming for this. The feature in the iPhone that allows you to keep VoiceOver on with speech off makes me wonder. We'll see when it comes out in late March.
