The first BMW car, was built in Berlin: on 22 March 1929 the first BMW 3/15 PS's left the production hall rented by BMW near Berlin-Johannisthal Airport. The first BMW motorcycle, the R 32 featuring an air-cooled twin-flat engine and shaft drive, was presented a few years earlier in 1923 at the German Car Show in Berlin. The BMW Plant Berlin was part of the team almost from the start: the history of BMW AG started with the production of aircraft engines in Berlin. The first BMW motorcycle built in Berlin - a BMW R 60/2 -- came off the assembly line in 1967, but the motorcycle of the Berlin Plant in the former aircraft engine plant started much earlier back in 1949 with production of the first parts for motorcycles still built in Munich back then. Over the years, motorcycle production was shifted step-by-step from Munich to Berlin. And to this day, Berlin remains the only production plant for BMW motorcycles the world over. Nearly all parts and components required for this purpose were manufactured at the Plant, with a total workforce of not quite 400 employees working in motorcycle production back then. Apart from consistently modernising the facilities, motorcycle production as a whole was substantially expanded in 1983 upon the introduction of the K-Series, BMW AG investing some DM 500 million in an entirely new assembly building and system, as well as a highly automated production line for engine components. BMW Motorrad, Europe's largest motorcycle manufacturer, unveiled the new BMW K Series at the INTERMOT 2008 in Cologne, Germany, on October 7. The three new models, BMW K 1300 R, BMW K 1300 S and BMW K 1300 GT are upgraded successor to their previous models. The BMW K 1300 S has an engine output of 129 kW (175 hp) combined with overall weight of 254 kg (560 lb) including fuel while the BMW K 1300 R develops maximum output of 127 kW (173 hp) and weighs 243 kg (536 lb) with a full tank The motorcycles in this video are the S, R and the GT in that order. We're at the Tech Center today and on the lift we have a 1970 BMW R75/5. See also R50 and R60. The /5 ( slash five ) series, introduced for the 70 model year, was a real watershed bike for BMW motorcycle production. The previous generation of machines [ post war wwII R50 R50/2 /2 R60 R60US R69 R69S ] were known for their reliability, comfort and quiet operation. Once exclusive attributes to BMW, however, many of the new models from Japan [ Honda in particular with the CB350, CB450 and revolutionary CB750 ] now achieved this at a lower price along with impressive performance. Greatest ever motorcycles discovery The /5 was available in 500, 600 and 750 cc capacities... this being a 750, thus the R75 designation [ R50/5 R60/5 ]. While relying on BMWs trademark air cooled boxer twin, the model is a radical departure in many ways from the previous models. A telescopic fork replaced the Earles leading link fork. 12 volt electrics replaced a 6 volt system. And to the horror of many a BMW loyalist the bike was available in a color combination other than schwartz mit weiss. The horizontally opposed twin [ boxer, flat twin or airhead ] with overhead valves was all-new. Outwardly, the first noticeable change from the previous models was the placement of the pushrod tubes under the alloy barrels and cylinder heads revealing <b>...</b>
