GO HERE TO DOWNLOAD TRACK: bit.ly www.djchrismoody.com http Riz and I have been friends for a long time so we decided a few years ago to produce some Disco house records Riz happened to be at a lounge one night in NYC and heard a DJ play Daddy Cool. He was shocked he was playing it and that's when the light bulb went off. I was sold on the record as soon as I heard it, so we hit my studio and made it happen. We were also amazed how crazy Boney M was back in his prime and became instant fans. We had "Daddy Cool" finished for a year and had plans on releasing the record in June, but unfortunately Farrell passed away in December so out of respect we wanted to release it now. We loved how the track turned out and knew that we had to have a killer video to go with it. I asked a friend of mine to put together something that would really show the spirit of Boney M. We loved the initial cut, and were completely unaware, until a few days later, that the footage was taken from Roger Sanchez's "Turn On The Music" video. Surprisingly enough, Roger had hired Farrell to appear in the video a few years back, so we used the footage to tip our caps to both Roger and Boney M. The ironic part is that I signed with Stealth in November and Riz and I have been friends with Roger for years. Some things are just meant to be. Chris Moody

"Ma Baker" is a 1977 disco hit single by German disco band Boney M.. It was the first single of their second album Love for Sale and their third consecutive chart-topper in Germany and their best yet placing in the UK, peaking at #2 (only surpassed by Donna Summer's "I Feel Love") although only a minor single in the US (#96). Frank Farian's assistant Hans-Jörg Mayer (aka Reyam) had discovered a popular Tunisian folkloric song, Sidi Mansur while on holiday and rewrote the song into a disco track. The lyrics by Fred Jay were inspired by the story of legendary 1930s outlaw Ma Barker although the name was changed into "Ma Baker" because "it sounded better". With a structure similar to Boney M.'s breakthrough single "Daddy Cool" with the same gimmick percussion, alternating answer-back vocals, a spoken mid-part, the song also opened with a snarling "Freeze, I'm Ma Baker, put your hands in the air! Gimme all your money". Although it has never been officially credited, the voice was done by Linda Blake, the wife of Frank Farian's American friend Bill Swisher who was a soldier in Germany at the time. Bill Swisher also did the spoken mid-part, announcing a bulletin from the FBI. He was also used on several later Boney M. recordings, including "Rasputin" and "El Lute". Frank Farian re-recorded the song with Milli Vanilli in 1988. Boney M.'s version was remixed the same year, 1993 and again in 1998.
