The Seventh Cross series narrates an intense fantasy tale written for an adult audience but is still suitable for young adults. The realistic seeming characterizations allow the reader to become attached to the various characters, from both sides, throughout the gripping plot. The plot itself instills classic fantasy themes of loss, triumph, struggles, tyranny, magic, etc. But it adds to the classic themes by instilling a spiritual level of narrative, politics, and panoramically descriptive action scenes that immers e the reader without being ov erly graphic. A young boy's village is overrun by a tyrannical regime. The young boy, Kaleb, survives the battle but finds himself lost and alone. He doesn't know his prophesized importance to the world yet, but others do, and so a select few set out to save him, or kill him. Both good and evil forces confront Kaleb through various means as they try to manipulate his allegiance and alter the prophecy. Wounds and Scars is a tour de force that continues where "Cross-Winds" left off, following the development of a hero long overdue in all of our lives. Brian Stowe creates a vivid plot with realistic characters who face struggles that any reader will relate to. The hero, Kaleb, possesses attributes that we all strive for: heroism in the form of sacrifice, courage, and love. What Kaleb does with these attributes is what will keep you on the edge of your seat as the struggle between good and evil continues.
