8 Foot Tall Woman!

8 Foot Tall Woman! Filmed in 1927 at the Chiswick Baths in London, this quirky item shows an apparently 8ft tall woman. What seems to be more obvious is the extremely fat belly on her male friend! Her height should probably be taken with a pinch of salt as a lot of the supersize humans in the British Pathe archive often are given over inflated heights. Music is sung by 1930s cabaret singer, Hildergarde. Crazy Taxidermy Museum - Stuffed Animals in Costumes (1965) [HD]

Crazy Taxidermy Museum - Stuffed Animals in Costumes (1965) [HD], Potters Museum in Bramber, Sussex British Pathe made this video at Potters Museum in the 1960s. Walter Potter lived in Bramber his whole life and spent his time dressing up stuffed animals elaborately and placing them in human scenarios. The original narrations states "Potter was a genius who made fur-lined dolls into whimsical but veritable works of poetic art". Of course some people today would see his life's work as abhorrent and disgusting. He was undoubtedly a true British eccentric. Some of the tableaus took years to arrange. The museum still exists today but has moved to Devon, and there is a sign there stating that the animals died of natural causes. How Many Schoolboys Can You Fit In One Bed?

"How Many Schoolboys Can You Fit In One Bed?" taken from the 1961 British Pathe reel 'Bed Record'. Filmed at Hampton Grammar School, Middlesex. Four teenage boys carry an old-school retro boarding school / hospital ward style iron bedframe onto a rugby pitch and reinforce it with scaffolding. Then a line of school boys take it turns to take their shoes off and lie across the bed. They pack themselves in like sardines, but only head to toe and then vice versa - which couldn't have been nice! The total boys is 94, beating the world record which was made in America with 63 boys. The Hampton boys had already broken this record in their first attempt - managing to pile up 65 boys. A photograph of the event appeared in Daily Sketch. World's First Hormone Therapy Transsexual - Ex-GI Soldier Christine Jorgensen (1953)

"World's First Sex Change" is from a 1953 British Pathe newsreel called 'GI Christine Returns Home'. It was later revealed that Christine Jorgensen (formerly George) wasn't the first, and sex change operations had happened in Germany during the 1930s. However, Christine was the first to use the addition of hormone therapy. There was a lot of publicity around Christine's sex change, initially using the fact that she was a GI in the US military as an interest hook. Christine used her sex change as a platform for fame, recording songs and appearing on TV shows. However she often felt victimised by the press and took offence to TV presenters and even walking out of shows that she had been paid to appear on.
