Bruce Hornsby solo piano performance of The Road Not Taken, from November 2006.

Originally, of course, by Mr. Bob Dylan. This is, by leaps and bounds, my favorite cover of this song, and on the right day it could be my favorite version, period. Far too many people have tried to wax philosophical about Dylan's lyrics, so I'll let the image and quotes I've used speak for themselves. Hopefully (the organization may be a tad messy).

The National Anthem at the 1991 NBA All-Star game, performed by Branford Marsalis and Bruce Hornsby. IMHO one of the finest interpretations. I missed the first 10 seconds and there is also some German commentary at the end - sorry for that.

Hi, thanks for watching! This is one of my all-time favorite pieces of piano music, Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is", as played on Gertrude- my Avocado green Wurlitzer 200A 'Electronic' Piano. If all things are working properly, you should hear the original recording on the left speaker and me on the right. Since the original is just so nice on its own, it felt almost sacrilege to play anything other than his original piano voicings. I did change a few things as you'll hear- like the LH in the main riff, and obviously the LH in the solo is an addition for the most part. Missing, to me, is the amazing quadratic effect he gets from the original recording, which as far as I recall is on a Baldwin. The Wurlie just can't produce those kinds of harmonics, so some of the octave tricks sound a little dry to me here. . Also I think the 3 opening chord stabs sound much better on a real piano. That first one, the G4, is such a lovely chord on piano but is a little edgy here. But on the bright side, I think the main hook sounds just nifty on the Wurlie. Especially that last note of the hook, that G- she really sings right there in the 'cello range, I think. - So in case you dig equipment, here you go: - She's a finicky little old princess and I've just scratched the surface in getting her all tweaked out. Double-strikes, lagging sustain, and a really uneven response means I'll eventually be replacing all the reeds and de-gunking the action... but she sounds pretty damn good right now ...

This "image stream" video represents one fan's mental images inspired by lyrics from this moving song, written by the brothers Bruce and John Hornsby. Note: The beginning segment 0:00-0:14 is taken from the 1986 album/studio version of the song, since this particular live-version .MP3 file on the Web is missing the beginning. I actually originally wanted to, and did, create this video using the studio version of the song [you can view that at the alternative video website VIMEO.COM vimeo.com but it was rejected by YouTube with a copyright violation notice directly from "Bruce Hornsby". Not "Hornsby Music Ltd." (or whatever umbrella parent publishing company), not RIAA, WMG, Sony, Music Publishing Rights Collecting Society, or any of those usual copyright entities. Just "Bruce Hornsby". Period. Ominously. It was my first catastrophic, privilege-revoking violation. For this one case with Bruce Hornsby, YT revoked my privilege to Upload Videos Longer Than 15 Minutes, which I had recently earned by staying away from gross copyright violations and following the Terms of Service... The moral: Don't f**k with Bruce Hornsby.
