C-130 YMC-130H Lockheed Hercules flight test accident crash

Discovery Communications Content copyright. Top secret Iran hostage rescue mission aircraft YMC-130H were three modified Lockheed Hercules Aircraft for Top Secret "Operation Credible Sport", for second Iran hostage crisis rescue attempt. One of the measures considered for a second hostage rescue attempt in Iran was a project to develop a "Super STOL" aircraft, to be flown by Combat Talon crews, that would use a soccer stadium near the US Embassy as an improvised landing field. Called Credible Sport, the project acquired three C-130H transports from an airlift unit in late August 1980, one as a test bed and two for the mission, and modified them on an accelerated basis. Designated as the XFC-130H, the aircraft were modified by the installation of 30 rockets in five sets: eight firing forward to stop the aircraft, eight downward to brake its descent rate, eight rearward for takeoff assist, four mounted on the wings to stabilize them during takeoff transition, and two at the rear of the tail to prevent it from striking the ground because of over-rotation. Other STOL features included a dorsal and two ventral fins on the rear fuselage, double-slotted flaps and extended ailerons, a new radome, a tailhook for landing aboard an aircraft carrier, and Combat Talon avionics, including a TF/TA radar, a defensive countermeasures suite, and a Doppler radar/GPS tie-in to the aircraft's inertial navigation system. Of the three aircraft, only one received full modification. The program ...

C-130 "Fat Albert" Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO), NAS Miramar Air show

A most impressive take-off: A Jet Assisted Take Off (JATO) at Miramar NAS Air Show, on August 16, 1997 This is "JATO" because this is a "Jet of expanding hot gases forced out of a small opening"; Whatever if the jet of hot gas is generated by the combustion of solid fuel or liquid fuel, from a static engine or turbo assisted. Be aware that I'll remove any offending comment and block it's author immediately! Even more impressive when on big planes like this C-130. It's "Fat Albert" of the Blue Angels. This was during one of the very last Miramar Air Shows with the Navy. It was in the early part of the Twilight Miramar Air Show.

USS Forrestal C-130 Hercules Carrier Landing Trials

The C-130 Hercules holds the record for the largest and heaviest aircraft to land on an aircraft carrier. In October and November 1963, a USMC KC-130F (BuNo 149798), bailed to the US Naval Air Test Center, made 21 unarrested landings and take-offs on the USS Forrestal at a number of different weights. The pilot, LT (later RADM) James Flatley III, USN, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his participation. The tests were highly successful, but the idea was considered too risky for routine "Carrier Onboard Delivery" (COD) operations. Instead, the C-2 Greyhound was developed as a dedicated COD aircraft. (The Hercules used in the test, most recently in service with Marine Aerial Refueler Squadron 352 (VMGR-352) until 2005, is now part of the collection of the National Museum of Naval Aviation at NAS Pensacola, Florida.)

C130 Crash C130 Hercules Drop Disaster

C-130 Hercules mishap. Terrible disaster. Plane Crash I thought i should add some info, mind this is from a comment and may not be entirely accurate. More info: "1) The pilot was descending at a rate of 2200ft/min from an altitude of 1100ft. 2) The pilot had tried a similiar stunt 2 days prior during a practice run, and was lucky enough to pull out. When confronted by his crew for reckless flying he only laughed at them, subsequently the navigator went to the Commander and DEMANDED to be removed from that plane (lucky for him). Though the commander did switch nav's he did however applaud the pilot for such fine flying, instead of grounding his butt." "It was Sicily, At Ft. Bragg in 1987 at the CAPEX. Capabilities exercise. I was the wrecker operator on duty that day with the 782 MT BN 82nd Abn. The CAPEX continued on down at the firing range after the explosion. C130 Hercules Tactical Airlifter.

The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft built by Lockheed. It is the main tactical airlifter for many military forces worldwide. Over 40 models and variants of the Hercules serve with more than 50 nations. In December 2006 the C-130 became the fifth aircraft—after the English Electric Canberra, B-52 Stratofortress, Tupolev Tu-95, and KC-135 Stratotanker—to mark 50 years of continuous use with its original primary customer, in this case the United States Air Force. The C-130 is also the only military aircraft to remain in continuous production for 50 years with its original customer, as the updated C-130J Super Hercules. The C-130 Hercules tactical transport aircraft is the workhorse of the RAFs Air Transport (AT) fleet and is based at RAF Lyneham, in Wiltshire, where it is operated by Nos 24, 30, 47 and 70 Squadrons. The fleet totals 50 aircraft and is a mixture of C1/C3 aircraft and the new C-130J aircraft, designated C4/C5.

C-130 Hercules Progress Report (1955)

This film is a Lockheed Aircraft report covering C-130 production; fatigue, structural, temperature and environmental tests; cargo and transport capability demonstration; and the development of ski - wheels. The film also shows a C-130 takeoff, flight and landing. From en.wikipedia.org "The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft designed and built originally by Lockheed, now Lockheed Martin. Capable of using unprepared runways for takeoffs and landings, the C-130 was originally designed as a troop, medical evacuation, and cargo transport aircraft. The versatile airframe has found uses in a variety of other roles, including as a gunship (AC-130), for airborne assault, search and rescue, scientific research support, weather reconnaissance, aerial refueling, maritime patrol and aerial firefighting. It is the main tactical airlifter for many military forces worldwide. Over 40 models and variants of the Hercules serve with more than 60 nations." This film has been made available to the public thanks to the Fedflix collection.

ASM C-130 Hercules - Giant Scale - Maiden Flight 11-7-2010

Picked up this Giant Scale C-130 Hercules from a good friend of mine. Thank you Mike! This is my maiden flight of this plane, although the plane has seen many flights from it's previous owner. She flies fantastic! Handles like a dream in the sky, although a few times in the turns, I could feel the weight in the sticks! The wind was about 15 mph. Upon landing, I engaged full flaps, cut the throttle and settled in for a nice approach. Not being used to this plane, I under estimated the speed of the wind, the effect of the Full Flaps and I bounced her on landing. The wind picked it right back up with all that flap engaged and she smacked down on the front gear hard. The gear mount gave way, but the damage is minimal and should be repaired quickly! I had an absolute blast flying this C-130! Quite a Thrill for sure! Thank you everyone who came out on this windy day to share in my excitement of flying this beast! Thanks for watching and commenting! Be Sure and Check out the speed runs at 3:00 and 4:00 minutes. See More at www.RCREDBARON.com Follow me on Twitter http Friend me on Facebook!! www.facebook.com

Blue Angels C-130 Hercules - Fat Albert JATO Take-off. 9/15/

This clip was taken at The Great State of Maine Air Show at Brunswick Naval Air Station September 15, 2007. This was done with a Canon PowerShot A40 digital camera. It only takes 30second clips. Blue Angels C-130 Hercules - Fat Albert JATO Take-off. Fat Albert The squadron's Transport C-130 Hercules aircraft; affectionately known as Fat Albert, is the only Marine Corps aircraft permanently assigned to support a Navy squadron. It is flown by an all-Marine Corps crew of three pilots and five enlisted personnel. Fat Albert flies more than 140000 miles during the course of a show season. The C-130 carries 25000 pounds of cargo, 45000 pounds of fuel, and transports the squadron's support and maintenance crew to each show site. Fat Albert cruises at 320 knots (approximately 350 miles per hour) at 27000 feet. Four Allison turboprop-engines producing more than 16000-shaft horsepower provide the C-130 with the power to land and depart on runways as short as 2500 feet. At select show sites, Fat Albert demonstrates its Jet-Assisted Take-Off (JATO) capability. Eight solid-fuel rockets are attached to the sides of the aircraft, four on each side. The rockets allow Fat Albert to take off within 1500 feet, climb at a 45-degree angle, and attain an altitude of 1500 feet in seconds.

Lockheed C-130 Hercules USAF Aerospace Power

Courtesy: United States Air Force Four decades have elapsed since the Air Force issued its original design specification, yet the remarkable C-130 remains in production. The initial production model was the C-130A, with four Allison T56-A-11 or -9 turboprops. A total of 219 were ordered and deliveries began in December 1956. The C-130B introduced Allison T56-A-7 turboprops and the first of 134 entered Air Force service in May 1959. Introduced in August of 1962, the 389 C-130E's that were ordered used the same Allison T56-A-7 engine, but added two 1290 gallon external fuel tanks and an increased maximum takeoff weight capability. June 1974 introduced the first of 308 C-130H's with the more powerful Allison T56-A-15 turboprop engine. Nearly identical to the C-130E externally, the new engine brought major performance improvements to the aircraft. The latest C-130 to be produced, the C-130J entered the inventory in February 1999. With the noticeable difference of a six-bladed composite propeller coupled to a Rolls-Royce AE2100D3 turboprop engine, the C-130J brings substantial performance improvements over all previous models, and has allowed the introduction of the C-130J-30, a stretch version with a 15-foot fuselage extension. To date, the Air Force has taken delivery of 68 C-130J aircraft from Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company.
